Will Sonar ever have a feature to do remote recording with clients?
 
I have been testing Cubase VST Connect Performer with my uncle who lives in London and I think its a great feature to add to Sonar. It will allow us to reach out to more clients in places we other wise never would. I could see myself using this feature often.

Would anyone else feel they could / would benefit from remote recording features such as this? What are your thoughts?

I'm not sure I get it.  How is it any different than setting up something like Skype?  
 
There is no way you can record at the same time, so I don't get why Sonar would waste their time on a unified communications tool.

I think true remote recorder programs inherently have the capability to adjust for the delays involved with remote recording. 
There is a delay in sending the cue mix audio to the remote performer and a delay to get his audio back. The remote recorder adjusts for these delays and allows you to simply record the new track as if the remote performer was in the local studio.
Setup cue mix.
Set levels on the new track.
Record arm the new track.
Hit play.
 
Not sure what the Skype audio quality is either but I don't think it is studio quality.
 
 
 

I have home based DAW studio so that I do not have to interact with live people.
 
I prefer file swapping where all participants can record at their leisure.

If we work with someone we give him the time to do the recordings in his studio.
Then we exchange files over the internet. It has never been necessary to make this live via camera.

Perhaps I haven't read the details of this cubase thing, but on the surface it doesn't seem like much more than the performer has Cubase in his home, and then there is the Unified Communications tool to communicate to the performer.
 
The person on the other(engineer) end isn't doing any recording I gather.  Thus I'm not sure I understand the full advantage here.

I agree with the fact that its easier and less stressful to record in your own time. I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on this. My uncle is having me help him out and test the Cubase Remote recording and so far it seems decent.
 
I connected to his studio using the Remote interface and got his video feed as well as him mine. When he recorded, I heard audio from his side, I added my parts and he received them. Just seems like another option to offer certain clients that may need more help during the recording process?
 
Just a thought? Just wondering if there are any collaboration plans or file sharing plans in the future for Sonar?
 
I remember back in the day when I had Reason 1.0, they had a way to share you files with the community and people could open directly inside Reason and modify the files and then reshare. If I am not mistaken... Ableton Live also has a file sharing feature for making it easier to get projects to other Ableton users.
 
Just thought, it would be cool to have a similar feature with Sonar so it opens up doors for collaboration and file sharing between client and engineer.
