I used to use buses for parallel compression but now use a method very similar to this:

I use aux tracks and buses. I have parallel compression using aux tracks beside the drum tracks and send those to a parallel comp drum bus.

I like using the AUX tracks to create effects too. I'll create a send to aux then arm the aux for record, record, delete send. Now I have a clip I can adjust (i.e. mangle) and mix back in to taste. The AUX track is just a new audio track once the send is eliminated. This works well for reverse effects.
