Just made the rather large leap from my old Sonar 7 Pro to Platinum. Wow.  A whole lot of new workflow to learn, but so far it's going great. On a new Sweetwater Creation Station, replacing my 8 yr old Creation Station.
 
Here are the two things I will start working on after I get all my new Sonar things learned.
 
1) I want to keep my old legacy projects and load them into the new box. Is it as simple as copying the old projects folder and dropping it into the new box? Just curious who has done this and what was the most expedient way to do so?
 
 
2) Now that I am on ALL new hardware (PC, interface, converters... the whole enchilada),  I will be routinely recording at a different rate than I had been previously.  I don't suppose there is a way to simply convert the entire legacy project to a different sample rate, but I thought I'd ask. I suppose it would be a matter of trying to open the project (provided I can get it into the new box) and see if the newer versions of Sonar are smart enough to tell me what to do.  Because, I'm not the smartest and PREFER when a computer is smart enough to do just that.  In 7 pro, it wasn't the simplest thing to go back and forth with different rates but I honestly believe that was more the hiccupping of my old interface rather than the Sonar software.
 
Anyhoo, thanks if anyone can help me out. I'm an old guy, so change does not come easily-  but, I am pretty sure this change is going to sound goooood!

Regarding issue 1, yes, just copy the folder contents and put them in the folder you'll be using to keep your Sonar projects in your new system.
 
Issue 2, I think sonar has an "upsampling"?? feature.

You can copy the folder or save the projects you want as a bundle and open those.
Bear in mind that if you have plugins on the old computer that isn't present on the new computer they will not be in the project. But you can open the projects and chose new plugins instead.

I also have a Creation Station. The model I bought (CS450) came with a drive bay in the front for removable hard drives up to 3TB in size. The bay functions as an internal drive, so there are no bottlenecks as one might experience with a USB drive. (Not so much a factor with the typical file size of a Sonar project, but I also do video, and have seen a big improvement.) I have since installed a second drive bay into an empty slot, and now I keep 2 copies of each project, on separate removable drives. I also keep my sample libraries on those drives.
 
If I ever upgrade to the latest model, I can just carry on as usual...put the correct drive into the bay and voila!

Now would be a good time to transfer all your older projects to an external USB 3.0 drive. Then you can take your data anywhere you want - to different computers, to a laptop, for backup, etc.
 
As to sample rate, you can always just record your new projects at a (presumably) higher sample rate. Because the older projects were recorded at a lower sample rate, you won't really benefit from transferring to a higher sample rate unless you're using certain virtual synths or dynamics processors, and even then, you can retain the same benefits by rendering tracks using them with SONAR's Upsampling feature. 
 
In any event, I'm pretty sure SONAR will sample-rate-convert audio when you open the project as long as SONAR and its associated interface are already set to a different sample rate. 

I transfer projects quite often between different Computers at different locations, sometimes these computers will have been running different versions of Sonar Platinum (well Platinum now days!) 
Beside the comment from Ida Mikke "Bear in mind that if you have plugins on the old computer that isn't present on the new computer they will not be in the project" the only other issue I ever encounter is a routing issue with Soft Synths. What happens is that the routing on say a soft synth track will change from one synth to another - for instance you might find a a Cakewalk Synth being routed to a Toontrack product and visa versa - this only takes a few minutes to correct, but it can seem perplexing until you realize what has happened!!
Also just a minor point, but if you take Craig's advice about transferring to an external drive, don't forget to BACK UP!!
