I have been playing with some of the themes provided on this forum which I am grateful for to try.
 
No matter how I re-arrange the colours through different themes Murcury always comes out best to me as It has lighter background and much easier on the eye and I like the blue buttons that light up.
With the Murcury you can colour your tracks and nothing clashes In your face as It looks nice and pastelly.
If you put themes In, red green etc,after making track and mixer colours the whole thing looks like a Mondreon and a multi-colur headache
 
Tungsten Is nice ,but I do not like the orange buttons  and much prefer the blue In Murcury,as It looks more professional.
 
Oh well that is my opinion only and I think that the whole thing of the theme editor is a waste of time really like that mastering company that sits In our daw.

don't quite agree.
 
I really like the ability to change some buttons to make them stick out from the rest (e.g. punch-in, offset mode engaged) which sometimes cause "unexpected" behaviour that's hard to figure why ... yet, I don't see myself using the theme editor more than a few times a year ...
 
 

I agree to a point.  It's a shame that Mercury-based themes lose strip shading.  Hopefully that will change.
 
IMO we're just seeing the beginning with Theme Editor (TE).  The really interesting stuff will be new themes built from the ground up, based on completely different images.  Changing button colors is interesting, but minor compared to the full potential.  Unfortunately I don't have the graphic skills or the time to invest building those skills.
 
In my way of thinking, changing object colors should be able to be done by any user with a right-click-choose color option instead of needing a full blown editor.
 
Who knows where it will end up.  Thankfully I have until Dec '37 to see what develops

Thanks for sharing your opinion. Unlike you, Cakewalk has been hammered for years for users not being able to customize the look and feel of Sonar. So they responded. I think they are doing a fine job. Maybe they'll do something you like and others don't next, who knows.

FYI - that's the way Duckbar does it, though you can augment Duckbar's color editing capability with and external graphics editor if you wish. Plus, you don't lose colored strips with Duckbar like you do with theme editor. And no need to wait for change - it's here now, and has been.

im glad they gave us the theme editor to customize our own schemes.
isn't customizing what makes a DAw even better ?

Like some other 3rd-party contributions, I tried Duckbar once.  I fiddled and screwed around, but it didn't click.  I couldn't find anything written about using it.  I posted a question about it at the DB forum and got zero response for at least several days.
 
I then uninstalled it.
 
While I appreciate that people share things they've done for themselves, the whole idea of limited support and zero docs doesn't sit right with me.
 
That's the reason I stick with fully supported solutions whenever possible.  Great, DB does stuff NOW!.  If I NEEDed it NOW! I would go that route.  To me themes are a nice to have thing.  I'm happy to let themes evolve into something that is fully supported.  If they never get there, then I'll never use them.  Much.

I'm author of Duckbar. Yes, there's very little supporting documentation to help getting started with Duckbar. Program and mods are designed initially for my personal use but I made it public so that people who are really interested to participate in development and could use it, too.  Because Duckbar is a freeware project and I have limited resources to make it a fully documented, well tested program for the big audience, I have not encouraged anyone to use it for a long time.
 
That said, Duckbar has been updated yesterday and I will make it more user friendly for the new users.  Just wait for a while, I have some great ideas how to make SONAR Themes easier to tweak.
 

Although I agree Mercury is a great general-purpose theme, and that Tungsten certainly has its merits, I do a lot of recording seminars and workshops that revolve around SONAR. Being able to make a super-high visibility theme when using projectors is really useful. It's not done yet, but it's getting there. My only real issue with the Theme Editor is not having documentation that correlates screen elements to the names.
