I'm using vista x64  an dusing a ultralite mk3  using firewire  (TI Firewire) (motu driver is latest) and was testing latency... and seem to have a periodic glitch... (checked DPC latency checker)

I run sonar and 48kks.. and selected share drivers with other programs in my preferences....  -  is this right in order for me to use wavosaur as my wav editor?    I also would like to run my itunes collection through  my motu on this computer too..

The build in audio card is turned off in bios.

The motu console  has waveRT option disabled  - is this ok?

GFX card is nvidia 8800gts  and is the latest driver.

Any thoughts?

My cousin was also have issues similar to your's while using an nvidia card, he replaced it with an ati card and his spike in dpc latency disappeared and great/minimal latency in Sonar as a result.

For good low latency performance in SONAR unselect "Share drivers with other programs." But in SONAR, use ASIO driver mode. If you use that "share" setting, low latency performance may not be good. You may get stutterring and bad playback in SONAR. I do. And I have a MOTU UltraLite-MK3 (non hybrid model using firewire connection.)

In MOTU Audio Console, on General TAB, checkmark "Use Stereo Pairs for Windows" and "Use WaveRT for Windows Audio." This will allow you to use a non ASIO audio setting in Wavosaur and use itunes and Wavosaur, even when SONAR is running.

In Wavosaur, use other than ASIO driver mode for the audio setting.

About that glitch you say you get, for your IEEE 1394 Bus Host controller, In Device Manager have you tried updating the driver for it and selecting the legacy version? For example: 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy). That may help. Other things that can Help with DPC Latency is to disable, in the BIOS, energy savings/power management features. And a big help was to disable the HPET setting in BIOS. You can try disabling some of these, run DPC Latency Checker again and see if it helped. Disabling these in my BIOS helped me get lower and more stable DPC Latency.

Hope that helps.

I'm running mine using firewire, but I could swear the last time I ran it using USB, it seemed to be more tolerant.

I think, but don't quote me on this, that you *can* use another app in non-shared mode (ASIO) if you manually disconnect the audio driver in Sonar temporarily. In the time window of the control bar is small 'wave' symbol highlighted in blue. Click it, and it goes dark - you can now use another app. However, as soon as you return to Sonar and press play, audio is re-enabled again ('wave' lights up again).

Is there any reason why I can't open the MOTU audio console from the start menu?

Not if some program has it locked, such as sonar or other audio program. Close those and you can open it from the start menu. If that doesn't work, then restart windows

Sorry to bounce my old thread.... but I have an intriguing  question.

Does my Ultralite need to be connected to a computer so that the input can be sent to an output?

I have two comps and wish to run audio from my older comp from the audio output into a standalone (powered) ultralite...

No it doesn't need to be hooked to a computer.

You can assign the output of one of the eight mixes to an output. Just enable the input you want (to output) in the mix you're using.

It's easiest to set this up using the Motu 'CueMix' app on your PC and then save it as a HW preset in the ultralite. Otherwise, it's entirely possible to do this via the ultralite's front panel, but it's all fiddly to do it that way.
