logically you would turn the fader down on the track you are recording (this wont effect the metronome volume),
if that doesn't help you have to ask yourself...
Is having an amp blasting away right next to me while recording really a good idea ?

Unfortunately it's my only option right now.

Totally depends on how your audio interface is set up for monitoring.
It would be helpful if you included which interface you are using in your post.
Many here might have the same and you would get a solid answer.

I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I don't think I have many monitoring options with it.

Are the monitor outputs and the headphone outputs seperate on the 2i2?

Yes.

Once you get the metronome to work in your headphones be sure to keep it on low because, when recording vocals, the shrill clicks will bleed out of your phones into the mic. You may not notice it at first because it is low but it can ruin a good vocal track if you are not careful. You will especially notice it once you compress the vocal in the mix.

Set the metronome bus volume so you can barely hear it in the mix, this will likely prevent it from bleeding out of your phones into the mic.. :)

It's been so long since I've used my interface I didn't realize there is a direct monitor switch on the unit. I turned that off and the problem is solved.
