I just upgraded from Sonar 8.5 to Platinum, so I have some adjusting to do.

In Staff View, how do you change note durations? I'm sure some may be content entering only quarter notes, but I like to throw in the occasional eighth, half and whole note. Heck, sometimes I even add a sixteenth.

I've searched the forums for an answer to this, but haven't found anything yet. I did find a video tutorial for X2, but the drop down box in that video isn't doing anything in Platinum.

You'll wanna check out the "Event Inspector" in Platinum, it's in the Control Bar, you'll see a Duration option, just select a note(s) in Staff View and edit duration  etc . . .

If you want to change duration of new notes you draw in, check out the Smart Tool, Pencil Tool, you can preset the durations of notes you enter . . . you do have some catching up to do . . .

What I'm attempting to do is change the note entry from quarter to something else. That appears to be for editing a note after it's entered.

In Sonar 8.5, I could just click on a half note (or hit a 2) and enter half notes.

The X2 tutorial I viewed says to click the Event Draw Duration button under Smart|Select|Move|Edit, etc., and select a new duration. When I click that however, nothing drops down to show more durations to select. It simply shows 1/4.

How do I preset the duration? It's set to 1/4 right under the Draw and Erase box. I should be able to click on that and select a different duration, but when I click on 1/4, nothing happens.

Read up on the "Smart Tool" on the Tool HUD, you can set note duration option before drawing in notes. On my system the Tool HUD can be accessed by clicking on the middle mouse wheel

You must have the Snap Tool turned on to 1/4 notes ? Or, try right mouse click on the Event draw Duration.

Clicking the mouse wheel causes the same option to pop up, but once again, clicking on the 1/4 duration does not drop down any other durations to select.

Oh well, I've been able to set key bindings for 1=whole, Alt-1=dotted whole, Ctrl-1=triplet whole and so forth...can't imagine why Cakewalk did away with the menu and the shortcuts, but this adjustment might work for me.

Right mouse does work.

Thanks for the help.

I can't imagine why it would be right mouse when left mouse does nothing. I'm sure they must have thought it was a a good thing to make the interface more confusing.

I still miss the note duration "note icons" that used to be at the top of staff view, but alas, they are long gone now.

What's really annoying about this is if I maximize the Staff View so I can focus on working there, access to the button to change note durations in the top menu bar is completely hidden!
