I usually run staff view from the new "Multi-Dock", then you can toggle it on and off with the "D" key shortcut.
You should still see the Control Bar / Tools when you do it that way.
 
(To get staff view into the multi-dock, drag the staff window down until you see a blue bar, then it will be go into the multi-dock)

Yes, that looks like a good workflow for switching back and forth, plus it keeps the top menu in view so durations can be changed. Thanks again.
 
These key bindings I've set up are working out pretty good, too. I'll probably keep them at least until I adjust from 8.5.
