  • Now Time not working - Solved

Using Sonar X3 Producer

Strangest thing! The now time no longer functions, nor does the vertical cursor move while playing.

Upon hitting Play...

Audio tracks will play their audio data but the Now Time does not change and the Vertical Line Cursor does not move.

In addition, the Midi tracks will not send their data to the soft synths to make them play.

I can change the Now Time by clicking anywhere on the Timeline Ruler but after hitting Play it just remains in that position and does not follow the real-time Now Time.

This is the first time this has happened to me. I've tried restarting Sonar, restarting the computer, and opening a number of previous projects to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Pete

Might you have accidentally hit the Scroll Lock key on the computer keyboard?

Also, it used to be that erratic Now Time display/movement issues would usually go away if the Picture Cache folder was emptied entirely.  Sonar will recreate it.  The picture cache folder contains audio waveform representations, to approximate recorded audio waves, as shown as audio clips for a given track in the track pane.

Thanks for responding Bob Bone

No, it' s not the scroll lock. The Scroll Lock key keeps the wave forms from scrolling in the clip pane but it still allows the Now Time and the Vertical Line Cursor to continue scrolling, even though it eventually positions itself out of view. However I thought the same thing at first and tapped the Scroll Lock button over and over several times until I realized that wasn't what was happening.

I have tried looking all over my computer for the Picture Cache but can not seem to locate it. I have 4 hard drives and can not find the Picture Cache folder on any of them. I've looked under Program Files>Cakewalk>and then under all the sub folders. I've looked under Users>My Name>AppData>Roaming>Cakewalk>SonarX3>and then all sub folders. I've tried looking under the Content folders on all four hard drives. No dice, can not find it on this computer!

I did locate the Picture Cache on my older computer under a sub-folder of Sonar 8.5 but could not locate the one for X1, which is also installed on the older computer. Obviously that folder has been moved or possibly re-named on the Sonar versions after 8.5

I suspect, since this post did not get a lot of responses, that this is a unique problem specific to my computer and there aren't really any available answers. I really hate to uninstall/re-install Sonar X3 but it may be my only option at this point. It's late at night here and I'll re-visit things in the morning. Perhaps there may be more suggestions for me to try as well.

Thanks again,
Pete

Chuck,

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I have already installed the X3e update. That was a good suggestion though. I might try running the update once again to see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks again,
Pete

Nope, re-installing the Update X3e did not make a difference. I think the update is really more for Melodyne.

Geez, I really hate to do a re-install of the entire X3 program. So much work!

This recently happened to me.  My wireless qwerty keyboard batteries needed to be replaced.

Thanks for responding BobF. Hmmm, I also have a wireless keyboard. My keyboard appears to be functioning fine but I'll certainly give your suggestion a try and let you know.

BTW for Bob Bone: I finally found the Picture Cache folder. I deleted all the the files in the folder but it didn't help the problem. Good suggestion though.

Thanks,
Pete

that's a good idea about the keyboard.
if its not been mentioned yet, also try a reboot of your PC.
sometimes corrupt data can be stored in RAM and not refreshed until reboot.

but I would def look into the keyboard thing. Bob is right, a lot of strange things happen when those batterys go low.
even mouse battery's going low will mess with you (as you need hover over for some features).

OK,

I replaced the batteries in both my keyboard and my mouse but it did not correct the problem.

Rebooting my computer is the first thing I tried after encountering this problem but it did not help. Just to be thorough I rebooted it once again after reading your above post but unfortunately it had no affect.

Arrrrgghhh! I've been using versions of Sonar PE since version 4 and have never encountered this problem on either version 4 or any other version after that.  So frustrating!
