• Features & Ideas
  • Ability to solo multiple Take lanes in the track and hide all muted lanes

I don't think I can come up with a better idea than this to solve my top 2 workflow issues simultaneously.

Issue 1: Scrolling the Track view up/down a lot due to the limited number of visible lanes on the screen is very tiring
I often need to edit several audio tracks simultaneously and they usually have 6-20 lanes. Although I have submitted a FR for slimmer lanes (same size as minimized tracks) and expressed my wish for it several times in the forums in the past, I think it's very unlikely to be implemented due to the current lane strip design (probably because of the big note field). So, I now find it more realistic to ask for an ability to solo multiple lanes (by Ctrl-clicking the Solo buttons) to only display the lanes I need to edit and then hide all other (muted) lanes at once to reduce the number of mouse scrolls.

Issue 2: The parent track displays ALL clips contained in the track (including those you don't want to see) when the lanes are collapsed
I've also asked this to be changed because the track looks messy with muted clips peeking out between non-muted clips when lanes are collapsed, and also because you could potentially lasso-select a visible clip or clips in front and apply an effect to them without realizing you have also selected clips that are hidden behind the visible ones and are unintendedly applying the effect to them too. Also, I often record idea takes in a lane and mute them (or the lane itself) because I just want to keep the ideas and don't want to see them until I need them, but they appear there in the track when the lanes are collapsed.

Killing two birds with one stone.
What do you think?

Another vote. Better Lane Height control has been something many have asked for since the inception of Lanes in X2. I love Lanes and much prefer them over layers for many reasons but this is the one thing that Layers (kind of) did better than Lanes. Unfortunately with Layers they would keep getting smaller and smaller until they became unuseable and they would not allow you to scroll the Layers portion of a track partially offscreen... which was a major problem for me because I do lots of takes.

Hopefully now that this feature has been around for a while and the main program seems to be more or less solid these Lane sizing issues can get looked at. Very strange they were coded this way in the first place. It always seemed out of place with the rest of the GUI. Could have just made them behave like tracks and included the Auto Track Zoom feature on them for those who like the current method.

Cheers.

Thinking outside the GUI here ...

Remember quick grouping?  What if you could QG lanes you want to work and have a new, pristine view open in a new window with minimal buttons/decorations taking up space?

Along with narrower lanes of course.
