Will there ever be a chance to create a redbook in Sonar rather than having to purchase more software and clog up the pc.  The alternative would be to give up Sonar and purchase a DAW that offers this.  I do not want to do that, but I need to be able to create vfm CDs to sell at my gigs.

Actually there already is although it's rather rudimentary and NOT FROM THE TIMELINE.
 
If you mix down your song(s) to stereo wav files then you can use the Cakewalk CD burner in the tools menu. You can't trim the audio in there or set inter track spacing like in Wavlab for example but the resulting cd is indeed Red Book.
 

I use Nero Burning ROM for all my audio CD Burning.  It is "red book" but also allows inserting ISRC codes, burning CD's with song titles, etc that many others do not do.  Nero Burning ROM will also burn to multiple burners which no other burning program (that I've found) will do.  I have a bank of 5 USB connected burners and I can burn 5 discs at a time.   My burner drives will burn audio CD's at 8X which makes them compatible with almost all old audio CD players.  CD's burned at higher speeds when played on many older players will either skip or not play at all.  When you sell your CD's at shows you have no idea what the buyer is going to play it on.  Same way with promo CD's, you don't know what the person is going to play it on.  You don't want to give someone a promo (hoping for a job for example or a recording session client) and it won't play on their audio CD player - that's the end of trying to get a job there or the recording client.

I much prefer to use dedicated software for CD-burning, for the same reason I use specific hand tools for different jobs rather than a Swiss Army knife for everything. There's more to making a CD than just clicking a button labeled "Burn" to invoke an automatic process that ensures the mandatory 2-second lead-in. 
 

There's no need to pay for an application to create a red book CD. Any audio CD that works is red book compliant. For example, Windows Media Player and iTunes both produce red book CDs when told to burn an audio CD.

If you need CD burning capabilities that go beyond what SONAR offers, then I think it would make more sense to buy something like Nero for $50 or Sony CD Architect for $80, rather than switch DAWs.

For $1 - $1.50 (USD) per including the jewel, the cover, etc., it's way cheaper if you have buy additional hardware to 'manufacture' them.  As they are a manufacturer, they will produce on demand as well.  By default, it is redbook compliant.
