Isn't that nice they stop support then I have problems. My Luck entirely.

1st - my sound card is a Mackie Onyx Firewire card on a Mackie 1640 mixer. I have been using Sonar for years and understand a lot of it (well mostly in recording and audio mixing). I don't use loops much like the Ableton type of DAW.

2nd - I did get the tracks to mix down to a bounced track. That worked just as it is expected to do. But still when I go to export the program doesn't even get to the menu for how I want to mix, it just plain crashes to desktop leaving a report to send to Cakewalk which fails because Cakewalk no longer supports Sonar X3. I don't even get a chance to set it up for 64 bit mode.

I will check my bit depth in preferences but since I changed nothing new or different in the program, I am sure it should be still working now. It worked fine in Windows 10 prior to me looking at Sonar Platinum 60 day trial in January this year. I opted out of buying it and uninstalled it. Maybe that is what has messed Sonar up. My plugins have now dropped to 84 in count from the 120 that was on the system last fall. I have removed none and the pathways to the plugins have not changed. Rapture is not installing (don't use it) but when I did a rescan of plugins I got a notice that Rapture was not completely found. PerfectSpace is totally missing even though I see its .dll in the plugins folder.

I have resecanned my plugin folders a number of times today with not change.I am missing 36 plugins and don't know where they went or why Sonar crashes when exporting.

well product support expires. that is just a fact of life.
every software does it not just Sonar. Sonar X3 ran solid for me. one of my all time favorite versions to be honest.

now as far as your system specs, Sonar version. you might want to state that in your signature as its a crap shoot trying to help someone when you don't know what they are using.
that's why what I ask next may just be the obvious....

have you installed any of the Sonar patches yet ? the sonar updates to X3 ?
Patch E was the latest and that had many issues resolved.

https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013361/SONAR-X3e-Update

Included in the update:

*Resolved an issue where the background VST Scanner would not scan all plug-ins when “Re-scan failed plug-ins” and “Re-scan existing plug-ins” were selected

*Resolved a potential crash when exporting audio with both realtime bounce and share audio devices active

I do understand your frustration though. hope this gets solved.

I understand that product support expires. I have no problem with Cakewalk on that policy. I was just lamenting that it happened to me after support expired. I get it.
I do have on the updates and am using Sonar X3e and have for some time. I have never had this issue before. I really appreciate all the advice on this forum and have checked each and every comment out and look for the solutions. I am beginning to think my Onyx Firewire ASIO card is reaching the end of its days. I seem to recall the last time some weird things were happening and they were related to the soundcard. I also am not sure that installing Platinum did not somehow mess with my plugins. I probably should not have uninstalled it but left it alone and expired.

I do believe I listed my computer specs in my first question but do understand that I should make it my signature line so one doesn't have to search through the topic to see them. I will try to include that in my signature. (If I figure out how to do that on the forum.)

It is odd that the only program that seems to be affected by this problem is Sonar. I DLed PreSonus One Prime, audacity, and have used my old (and I mean old) SoundForge and have no problem mixing down and exporting a .wav file. Those programs I mentioned do not hold a candle to the quality of Sonar and I really want to get it back and running smoothly again.

Hmm, you say you tried the demo.. that would mean stuff in the registry and then guess what,, the demo won't let you export so possibly this has created this situation.

My next step would be to completly erase all traces of Sonar from your computer and then do a fresh install. Myself I'd order a new SSD drive and save the old drive.

Thanks Johnny V. I am going to try your suggestion. My brother experienced the same problem when he tried Platinum last fall. He said he had to uninstall X3 and clean the registry then re-install the program. That will be my afternoon project today.

Thanks to all for your support and suggestions.

Update to problem

I uninstalled Sonar X3, cleaned the registry with CCleaner and reinstalled but I still have it crash back to desktop when I try to export a .wav file. I can bounce the mix to a stereo track but I can't export it. And yes I freshly installed the X3e update. Any suggestions?

What are your export options?
Does it chug away for a bit before crashing, or does the crash occur as soon as you click the Export button?
Can you do a realtime audible export?
Have you ever successfully exported a project on this computer (and configuration) before?

Sonar crashes immediately upon selecting the export menu option.

I can realtime audio export to another music software and yes I have successfully exported on this machine and its current configuration.

I still think it wasn't completely uninstalled and registry wasn't completely cleaned on today's uninstall attempt. I forgot to restart the computer after cleaning the registry.

I am trying again and will let you know if I succeed or not.

I think there is instructions here somewhere on how to 100% clear all traces of Sonar. CC cleaner would not work. Use the search function and type in Cakewalk after you uninstall. There are all sorts of folders and one of them would have the problem child file in it. IF this is the problem.
You could also open regedit but I would only do this with good instructions on hand.
