I've looked at the Studio One 3 reference manual (13% the number of pages as the Sonar manual) and also at some online tutorials and demos, and I'm having a hard time getting excited about it. I use software synths and hardware synths, and I do a lot of editing in Sonar's staff view. In the manual and tutorials, I didn't see any equivalent to Sonar's staff view or MIDI event list. Studio One seems to have a nice feature set for audio, but very little for MIDI editing. Of course, I'd be happy to be contradicted by an experienced S1 user.

I don't want to jump until I find a product that has the features I need.

Came to the same conclusion.  Looks like I will be going to Cubase.

Not sure about this exactly, but there appears to be a separate product they offer, called Notion 6.  It's a scoring tool I suppose, and it can work in tandem with Studio One - "the workflow between Notion 6 and Studio One 3 is unprecedented" - apparently.  Anyway, I mention this because I'm guessing it might cover more of the midi stuff (maybe?) and it's worth noting that you can get it bundled with Studio One at Audio Deluxe and the discount is larger, so you can have both for $189 which is only $20 more than getting Studio One on it's own.

I have just upgraded from Studio One 2 to Studio One 3 because there is a good deal on Audio Deluxe for the upgrade.  It was only $83.98 and I guess I better start learning it now!

Gibson has losses if they bury the software code.
I hope they will sell the code to another company.

yeah but the core stuff is now rather old, so no so useful

i've been using s1 since the x1 mess (also demo'd reaper at the time) and i would happily recommend it to anyone now looking for an alternative to sonar

I am not sure i see the point.

Its not as if our copy of sonar will vanish.. not one person here NEEDS a new DAW, today.

I for one wont be hopping onto anything different any time soon.. the improvements in Sonar in the last 18 months represent more improvement than from 8 > x3 so i am good for a few years.
