Hi, I bought a Focusrite 18i8 interface to use with Sonar. At first it wouldn't work, there seemed to be an ASIO driver issue that prevented it from working properly. My Sonar also did not work properly with the selected ASIO driver and I had to use the MME drive to use Sonar. Well I got to thinking that I had previously installed ASIO4ALL on my computer and was wondering if somehow that was conflicting with the ASIO drivers in Sonar, so I un-installed the ASIO4ALL driver from the programs section of my computers control panel. Low and behold Sonar started working properly again with the ASIO driver in Sonar. Then I tried the Focusrite 18i8 again and it too worked to perfection !! So just so you know, the ASIO4ALL can indeed conflict with the ASIO driver in Sonar.

Cakewalk Analytics can query what's being assigned to SONAR's outputs. A surprisingly (some would say disturbingly ) large number of SONARians use ASIO4ALL. I know that ASIO4ALL can work with some systems and it's quite ingenious, but I think even the designers would say it's a kludge. Frankly, if ASIO4ALL disappeared from the face of the earth, I think it would eliminate a lot of need for support for Windows DAW and interface manufacturers, and quite a few forum threads about software "not working."

If someone's committed to using ASIO4ALL, then use it for a laptop (if you have a desktop, you should have a proper ASIO interface), and make sure no other audio drivers are installed. That's the only way I've gotten it to work.

I had the same problem and to fix it …
In preference Under Sync and Caching / File system I unchecked Enable Read Caching and Enable Write Caching. Also if your audio interface needs to use your computer CPU speed and it’s too slow the ASIO drivers will seem to be problem when it is truly the CPU speed.

I'm not all that computer literate, but I do know when my programs are working properly. NOW Sonar is working properly and the Focusrite 18i8 is working perfectly as planned. I am able to direct my mic and line inputs to whatever track I want. And it sounds fabulous.

Yeah, I also solved problems by eliminating ASIO4ALL. In my case, it was the manufacturer of a piece of hardware that SPECIFIED using ASIO4ALL in its manual that lead me into that trap!

i was curious as to what analytics can query/track, but the only link i can find (http://www.cakewalk.com/analytics via googling "analytics site:www.cakewalk.com") is 404ing - is there an updated URL for this info? (the 404ing page is also linked to from the privacy page at https://www.cakewalk.com/Privacy )

I don't think analytics are public. When I do the Top 10 Charts for the eZine based on analytics, I have to go to a special site. Most of the entries so far involve the computer system, interface, and plug-ins.

thanks, though i'm not interested in the collected data, but rather what data is collected :-)

(and the website could use it's links updating ;-)

thx
