I just want to jump in here and add my support  to the amazing  'Cakewalk Team'.I don't know any of them personally BUT I know they .....and their ancestors have brought me much joy over many years.I have been using Cakewalk since I purchased my first ROLAND keyboard ( E500) back in 1999.
 
I work with people who have disabilities.
A THEME EDITOR for SONAR...............is so important  in recognizing that we all have different physical (ie: incl vision) needs..........!!
 
We Are All About Music And Sound..................Some of our best song writers have LOW VISION !!!
 
Theme Editor gives EVERYONE ( with' vision')  an opportunity to set up the GUI  so that they can actually READ IT....................Well Done Cakewalk Team..........................AND All OF those who Follow You :)  !!!

I miss colored strips as well but I don't believe it is anything to complain about.
as far as cakewalk giving you a new editor to make your own themes.
think about it, if cakewalk never gave you the tungsten theme, you wouldn't be upset.
so just use Mercury, that's what I do. I still find mercury to be very efficient in what im really trying to accomplish, and that's create music.
I do love the dark theme and  if you choose "Large Icons" in the strips in CV + TV it does make a big difference.
Here's to hoping they bring back colored strips in Dark theme. but if they don't, I wont loose a bolt over it.

Sonar looks great as It Is and workable.
To me It Is just another gimmick which stems workflow.

 Any reason why you don't use Panu's Duckbar? Maybe it doesn't work in post-X3 SONAR versions? I've never used it, so I don't know.

I tried Duckbar several years ago for this very reason but track strip colour wasn't something it could influence.

As Craig said, certain colorizations are not so easy considering the fact that the X series GUI was apparently created without this in mind. So I'm sure it will take time for all your colorization wishes and dreams to come true.
 
The fact that they are now offering 'themes" and an editor is a giant step. Now that we have them, refinements will follow.
