Im about to pull the trigger on an update, but 1st would like to know when I can actually use it. End of August 2016? Sept?

That is because the Mac Alpha release date has not been announced.

Id like to take advantage of the update but not if I have to wait half a year to use it...

I would definitely be nice to know a timeline, but Cake has always been hush-hush on release dates. It's always nice when it happens but I've been salivating over this Mac Alpha since it was announced. In the video it looked like a fairly well functioning program...it would be sweet to know the process since it's not a strategic decision to hide the release in any way.

First it has to go to alpha. Then the question is how much will surface that's problematic, which will determine how fast it moves into beta. Then the question is how much will surface in the beta that's problematic, and what's needed to do a full port. And you never know whether Apple will move the goal posts; that's happened before with the AU plug-in and other specs. 
 
I can't imagine any way Cakewalk could make a definitive statement on when it will be available given that it's this early in the process, but then again, I thought they'd never come out with a Mac version...you never know what new technology will come around to change everything

another question or 2- (asked elsewhere but need to know) since I bought Sonar Platinum specifically for the iMac, and since I can not get a registration code for Sonar Platinum until I run the program on the iMac for the 1st time, will I have issues when the Mac version is released with qualifying for life time free updates if that date is after August 31st 2016? Or is there another way to get a registration code on Sonar without running it 1st?

The Command Center handles authentication unless the machine is not connected to the internet. In that case, SONAR must be installed to create the document to submit for license file generation.
