Ever since Cakewalk came out with Command Center I find other developers modeling it.
Toontrack did and NI has one similar that's in beta testings.

Command Center was actually one of those features that pushed me to SPLAT. Of course the XLN stuff helped.

Even if you are not on the membership or life upgrades, any changes in your other products will show up in Command Center.

I would say no you are seeing the reaction of a good idea hitting others just as other ideas from CW have been picked up by others. With CCC it was not all that good when it first appeared. Its much better now but could still used some improvements.

It is very handy and I wasn't sure I would use it. Now I would find it a hassle to not use it.

Well, credit where credit is due...NI introduced their Service Center several years ago, which IIRC was the first mainstream example in the music industry with features we take for granted today, like companies managing licenses online. The initial version was something of a disaster, but NI stuck with it and it didn't take too long before it became a very useful adjunct to managing your software (particularly the way it would keep track of updates and such).

I think the command centre idea was around quite a while before Cakewalk used it. It's a bit like when your best frend buys a new car, and then all of a sudden you seem to start to see cars like it everywhere. They were always there - you just didn't notice them as you had no personal reference to them. It's a side effect of the patterning our brain uses to filter the enourmous amount of data it receives combined with a mental shortcut called the availability heuristic.

Probably more detail than anyone needed. Pretty interesting stuff though:)

Every program that is open to access from outside presents a vulnerability.
iTunes went through several versions before it was reasonably secure.

I laugh at myself out loud when it comes to C3.  I held out until D or E, IIRC.  I was adamant that I would do it the old fashioned way.

Now I love it
