I have a cheapo electronic drum set that i use for recording MIDI drum parts. It's falling apart and generally a piece of junk so I'm looking to replace it with something a little better.
Here's a quick list of what I'm looking forward:
- Plays well with SONAR via MIDI. My current kit produces a bunch of really annoying duplicate notes. It also drops out randomly during recording. Not sure if that's the kit's fault or SONAR's fault or some misunderstanding between the two but I'd like a kit that someone can vouch for having a good track record with SONAR.
- Drama free drivers. I'd prefer to spend about zero time messing with cruddy drivers. I'd prefer either a dedicated MIDI out on the sound module or, if not, a USB connection that's going to actually work reliably. If drivers are necessary, I'd like a company with a track record of keeping up to date with Windows (i.e. probably not Roland).
- Decent quality. I'm not exactly a drummer so I'm not looking for something super awesome but I'd like the quality level to be something that a real drummer could get some good work done on.
- Sound module doesn't really mean much as I'll mostly be using it with AD2.
- Budget: $1000-ish. Would like to spend less, would be willing to spend a little more if it's worth it.
Any thoughts?
