  • Soft synths play behind an/or out of sync in 64 bit v but ok on 32 bit?? (p.2)

Still lots of detail missing but try lowering the latency buffers on the Presonus interface (if you start to experience glitching then other things need to be done). If you have any resource intensive and/or "lookahead" plugins on the project remove them or freeze them while tracking.

Check your MIDI buffers in Sonar preferences as well... but really, more detail is needed. Gotta narrow things down.

You are SURE you are on 64bit Windows and the 32bit version of Sonar is working better? That seems... backwards. Are you sure that in 64bit Sonar you are using the 64 bit versions of these plugs?

How did you end up with both 32 and 64 bit versions of Sonar on your system?

How much RAM do you have on the system?

I'm asking those questions on TOP of the other questions from earlier so the more detail you can give the better.

Edit: I see you've updated a bit and answered some of this post but I'm submitting as is because I have to go do some hacking of my own. I'm sure this could be sorted easily with some extra deets and if you don't know how to answer certain questions just ask and I'm sure you'll get pointed in the right direction to figure it out. It can get a little complex these doods know their shiz.

Good luck.

Thank you to all who are offering help!

I was using 64 bit sonar ok with no problem till update.
I have the 32 bit v sonar installed as I need some old plugs that wont load in 64bit. This all seems normal except the soft synths are lagging out of sync in 64 bit.

@Karhide I am not sure what your asking re full set up.

THX!

A couple of things that might help
  • You have not mentioned if the 64 bit and 32 bit are on the same machine?
  • Are the drivers for the audio interface up to date?
  • What is the latency you are running at and are you running any effects like a limiter or compressor that might be looking ahead?
  • What VST's are running out of sync?
  • Are they VST's 32 bit or 64 bit?
  • A list of the VST's in the project?

  • You have not mentioned if the 64 bit and 32 bit are on the same machine? Yes on same machine
  • Are the drivers for the audio interface up to date?  yes
  • What is the latency you are running at and are you running any effects like a limiter or compressor that might be looking ahead? ASIO buffers at 4096 Yes Disabling all plug in except soft synth makes no difference.
  • What VST's are running out of sync? All soft synths on playback.
  • Are they VST's 32 bit or 64 bit ? Both.
  • A list of the VST's in the project? D pro, Zeta2, Rapture.
Thank you!!!!

A couple of things you could try off the top of my head:
  1. Disable one of the synths in turn to see if the sync issue goes away.  I have all three of those synths but mainly use Z3ta2 and the new Rapture Pro.
  2. Just use one of the synths in the project for all the parts and see if the issue goes away.
  3.  Lower the buffer size to something like 1024.  I have heard reports with some interfaces that odd things can happen when running with a really high buffer.
  4. Try freezing the synths to see if they then play in sync.
  5. Does the same issue happen if you render the project to a stereo file?
Is the project a combination of audio and midi?  If it is just midi you could upload a part of a project and someone with the synths can test the project.

Thank you I will try a few of these suggestions and get back to you shortly.

some 32bit vst wrapped in bitbridge can go out of sync, scmiiw?

Yes, this is almost surely the cause. Bitbridge has a bug that adds an empty buffer of audio to rendered output. The higher your ASIO buffer, the worse the sync error will be.

Options are:

- Keep the project in 32-bit SONAR' till it's done.
- Run a 64-sample (or lower) ASIO buffer and ignore the minimal error.
- Buy JBridge (~$20) which doesn't have this issue.
- Replace all 32-bit plugins with 64-bit versions.
- Freeze the 32-bit synths, crop one buffer's worth of samples off each clip, and slide back by that amount.

And if you're feeling really adventurous:

Create two 'Pre-Master' buses, route all the 32-bit synth tracks to one, and everything else to the other, and delay the 'other' bus output by one buffer's worth of samples using Channel Tools.

I'd vote for JBridge. It's cheap, effective, and provides other benefits like not having 32-bit plugin windows intercept all keystrokes so you lose transport control while tweaking.

Thank you brundlefly! RE: Buy JBridge (~$20) which doesn't have this issue. Can you please point me to where I might find this?
