• SONAR
  • Some UAD Plug-ins Won't Install - Only in SONAR

I've seen a couple of references to this issue but can't seem to find a definitive solution.

I've installed PCIe UAD to card into a new Windows 10 system. 16 GB RAM and lots of SSD storage. The UAD comes with a number of plugs authorized, and a list of others that you can try on a time limited basis. All seem to be 32 bit. Any of these load and run fine in Sound Forge 11.

But in most current version of SONAR Platinum the authorized plugs will not load. Trying returns err msg that it's either not present or not properly installed. I can, however, load a plug that I've started the trial on.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

PS: running Win 10 and SONAR as 64 bit. Knowledge base article mentioned popping in the CD and installing SONAR 32 bit and running them side by side. But I wouldn't know how that's done through the Command Center.

[Edit] Yes, paths to all VST folders are listed and I've tried rescanning.

Hi. All my (not so many) UAD plugins are in Vst2, X64. Which version UAD software do you use?
The latest version is here: http://www.uaudio.com/support/uad/86.html
All the best.

Thanks Zargg71.

I'm using v 8.6 which is the most current.

Are you saying that your UAD plugins are 64 bit?

Are you running Win and SONAR in 64 bit mode?

Regards.

Yes, I am running Windows, SONAR and UAD as X64. As far as I can tell, they have supported X64 since version 6.4, in 2012.
All the best.

I'm also sure the UAD plugins are 64bit. Are you seeing the UAD DLL files here:  c:\program files\universal audio\powered plugins\uad-2 powered plugins\ ?  You might check the UAD paths with the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager found under the SONAR Utilities menu.  If the UAD plugin path(s) point to C:\Program Files (x86)\  that could be a problem.

I'm running SONAR and UAD PCIe Windows7 64-bit without problems and expect it would work the same on Win10.

edit: Zargg71 answered the 64bit question while I was posting.

Thanks, everyone, for your time. I've been waiting for response from UAD but doesn't seem to be happening.

In any event, yes, although I don't recall setting or changing installation defaults, it looks like an infestation of directories has been created as follows:

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Powered Plugins\Mono
C:\Program Files\Universal Audio\Powered Plugins\UAD-2 Powered Plugins
C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Audio\Powered Plugins\UAD-2 Powered Plugins
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\Powered Plugins
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\Powered Plugins

"Powered Plugins" refer to UAD.

I tried adding each path in SONAR preferences but the flyout still only showed 32 bit plugins for UAD.

I then tried deleting all paths except what looks like 64 bit UAD but still no go. Still only showing 32 bit UAD plugins.

I have noticed that I no longer get the small notification flyout that plugins are being scanned when starting SONAR (it is set to Scan on Startup). Clicking on Scan button in Preferences doesn't *appear* to do anything. Clicking on Reset says that a scan is in progress and to wait before starting another scan... could this be the problem? Could the scan be stuck somewhere and unable to complete?

Any splash screens hiding behind other windows?

None hiding that I can find (and that has indeed happened quite a bit in Win 10).

I've let SONAR run for hours and still get the Scan in progress err msg in Preferences.

The flyout dialog box at startup saying VST plugins were being scanned (the one I'm not seeing anymore) looked like the standard Windows notifications that slide out from the bottom right near the system tray.
