HI guys well look i have a amd fx 53 a gig of ram. I have three r-buses going through it And a Roland vm c7100 console and pros. NOw it playes midi and audio. But can not use my midi keyboard if so what midi interface works great. Becasue im using a m-audio 1010lt for the midi. I want to cut that out so i have more room. Im thinking of getting a Uad-1 should i? And if i should what is the diffrents between the studio and the project one?

hi,
i don't know anything about the UAD's .. but I use a M-Audio
Midisport 4x4 and have grown quite fond of it ... mostly because
I don't have to mess with it ;-)

If you need only a couple midi ins/outs, then like above, the MidiSport is good value. I use the 2x2 -- retails about $70. Not a single problem with it.

UAD-1 is an audio DSP with plugins not a midi device

I'm in between - I use the MidiSport 2x4. I used the 8x8 for years, but as my studio has gone more and more towards soft synths and samplers I downgraded to the 2x4 last year. Inexpensive, rock-solid, and completely idiot-proof. And it's bus-powered to boot.

Like the man said, it won't do anything for your MIDI situation, but it's a heck of an upgrade to the DAW - great-sounding plugins with hardware acceleration. I've got 2 in my machine and I'd be in big trouble without them. The difference between the studio and project is simply the number of plugin liscenses you get and the price. Studio pack comes with more plugs, but costs more. The card is the same in both packs.

It might be overkill for you, but I'll mention it anyway...

I still love my old MOTU MTPAV Parallel. 8x8 and has worked great for me using Cakewalk products for many years now. Built like a tank and never complains. You can find one occasionally on e-bay for $100 or so.

I know a lot of people have less need for Midi ports if they were primarily using them for synths (since now many people are moving to soft-synths). However, in spite of actually really using only one external sound module (Roland MGS-64), I still use most of the MTPAV's I/O ports. It's great for providing I/O for other things (my guitar processer, my electronic drum kit, my 2 midi keyboard controllers, Digitech VHM-5, Alesis Midiverb IV, among others) and for saving off SYSEX dumps for these external devices.

Good luck!

Hi Randy:
As you, I have an old but powerfull MIDI Interface: the 8Port/SE. It´s working very fine under WinXP Pro with the drivers selled by Earth Vega Connection.
Large size SysEx messagens are handled fast and precisely and the timing under Sonar is very precise.
As you, I wish to register this for all friends here.
Greetings.

I had this interface for years - Juca is right, it's a terrific box. XP killed mine tho - like an idiot I changed to XP right in the middle of a project and at the time Music Quest was out of business and there were no XP drivers for the 8port. Horrors! I ran out and bought the MidiSport 8x8 that day. It's good to hear that someone wrote some XP drivers for the 8Port/SE, since it is a very fine piece of hardware.
