Steve:
You are right: that box is fantastic and as I had hear not good things about USB MIDI Interfaces at all (mainly the ones wich use USB 1.0), that paralel device still wonderful under XP, with the mentioned driver.
About the driver, is important to say the developer still give us support, so when a litle problem in a system configuration is confirmed, he make the update free of charge. Also, he is very atenciouss in reply our questions (I not work for he, of course).
I know a few users of the 8Port/SE have the device without use and not know about this driver, so I posted this info.
Greetings.

Just wanted to put in a word about the new 8Port/SE drivers for XP: they work great! I was just about to get rid of my 8port before they came along, just in time.

Hey, if you just want to hook up one keyboard the edirol um1x is a nice interface. what every you do dont get the yamaha ux1, it looks the same but its plagued with jitter probs and yamaha tech support confirm that it cant send sysx data properly as it was made only for note on/off messages.....

I think your safe with edirol's FPT(fast processing technology), Edirols newer interfaces are the best usb interfaces I have come across.....Work flawlessly, send 16 busy tracks of midi while syncing to MTC clock.....no limitations or errors I have ever experienced....I'd go with edirol and play it safe, although obviously others have come up with great interfaces too.

kz1m9w,

What make and model of motherboard are you using? I bought an MTP AV parallel version on eBay but could never get it working on my Dell PCs. But, it works perfectly on an IBM laptop that I borrowed from work...

paugust586,

I'm using my MOTU MTP AV parallel with a 1.4 Ghz AMD Athlon and an IWILL KT266+ motherboard running Windows 2000 + Sonar 4.0.1. For audio, I'm using a Roland RPC-1 PCI card plus the Roland SI-24 control surface.

Working great.

Did you try changing the settings in the BIOS according to the MOTU readme file? I know that if you've got some setting for your parallel port other than the one they recommend, it causes problems.

I use the MOTU Midi Timepiece AV as well. Also have 2 other MIDI Timepieces
I used for years (a 16 and an 8)all 8x8. Think I'll keep the AV but will let the other two go for next to nothing if somebody could use them. They're old but they work great.

I'm getting a rather extensive laptop (SAGER 8790). Never ran a laptop before with MIDI.

Anyone ever had any MIDI timing or MIDI latency problems with a laptop
or do MIDI interfaces work pretty much just like they do on a desktop?
(I run at least 3 MIDI devices at a time on seperate ports)

Happy Friday all....

Stillfox, Markelford, Juca..

I've had the 8PortSe for 6 years or so.
It has been a workhorse and never given me any probs.
After updating the OS to Win2K about a year ago I went to EarthVega and got the Win2K driver for 20 bucks and all has worked perfectly ever since.
I was agonizing over the fact that I would of had to get a new midi patch bay (and I need all 8 ports) until I found EarthVega for the Win2K drivers from someone here on the NG.

Don't quite no what else is out there now other than what's been suggested already.
Good luck with your decision.

Hello,
Good morning.
i am new in the forum and have no experience on it.
I am spanish native speaker so english is an extra challenge.
Lets see if your experience can help me to run the 4x4 midisport and Sonar Platinium
I work with Windows 8.1 and although i see the devices at the device manager i can not find them at Sonar>>preferences>> midi devices.
The problem is even worst because i have 2 midisport 4x4 units and they do not appear inside sonar.

do you have any idea in regarding what to do under those circunstances?

thanks in advance.
regards,
santiago
