Thanks to all for your help. After freezing the synth, I was able to see that my drum parts were the problem. It seems I had a lot of overlapping drum parts that somehow created gaps in the export. Playback is fine in Sonar but didn't work as an export. As a result, I redid the drums and they now export properly. Newbie mistake no doubt. Now a new issue;
The mix sounds clean and crisp in Sonar but the export sounds a bit "dull" with seemingly different sound levels on the various tracks. Any tips on keeping the sound in Sonar the sound I hear, after export? Again, thanks to all. Tom
If you are exporting a 24 or 32 bit project down to 16 bit make sure you have the "Dithering" option enabled. There are also multiple settings for dithering with varying qualities. Usually the Pwr Dither options are best.
Also maybe you have some EQ/Compression on your Master bus. If you use the "Track" export option or choose a "Bus" export that ISN"T the master or the Mains then you lose the effects on the Master. Of course you also need the "FX" option checked off in the Export dialog.
Just some ideas.
@Jonesey... BFD3 does indeed look pretty wacky in the vids I've seen but likely worth the effort. Honestly I'd be more than fine even with BFD2 which I never got around to upgrading to but aside from old stock boxed sets I don't think that's an option anymore. IIRC BFD3 has a lot more routing and environment options. I stopped torturing myself by watching the promos though. lol
