I'm about to hit the road for about 6 months.  I want and need to take Sonar with me.  Are there any issues with installing it on my laptop and still leave it installed on my studio computer?  Do I need additional licenses or can I just down load it onto the laptop from my user account?

You are allowed to install SONAR on multiple computers as long as it's only used on one at a time. So go ahead and have a fun road trip!

You can install Sonar on more than one computer using the same licence/serial number.

The licence only allows you to actually be sitting there using one installation at a time.

So as long as you don't have two computers both actually running Sonar under the same licence/serial number at the same time, you have no problem regarding licencing.

At least, that's how I read the licence conditions.

YUP - I have Sonar X3 and Platinum installed on 3 desktops and 1 laptop, but only use one machine at a time.
 
They have built up a GIANT bunch of goodwill from users for this very trusting policy they have, because the alternative, as employed by other companies via crap like iLok and such, is a horrible nightmare.
 
So, lots of users are happy to honor that licensing agreement, out of thanks for the trust from Cakewalk AND because there is no horrifically restrictive dongle policy.
 
Have a blast remotely, and when you get back, you can transfer those projects back to your primary DAW.
