Hello all and thanks for reading this, I do appreciate it greatly. Here's my problem:

I have this one finished tune on X3 that will almost never open when I try to bring it up. This tune is no different really than all the others that WILL open, besides the obvious like melodies and such.

I do not know what else I can tell you really. I use the same plug-ins and same everything as I do on all the other songs. There is not anything special that I know of about this particular song that refuses to open about 90 plus percent of the time. The only thing that I can think of is a Free Haas plug-in that was once on this project but was removed the first time I received the "will not open" trick (if you will). I still had the Free Haas plug-in on all the other tunes and all was well so I don't know if that actually has anything to do with this problem.
I know that there is a message that states something about an APP Hang but it seems to be all but useless in figuring out the problem.

Here is what it says (in part):
AppHangB1
Application Timestamp    5516b4a

Hang Signature               a2dc

Hang Type                      517

There are 7 additional Hang Signatures which have really long letters and numbers in them.

As I said, it is just this one project which has the problem with all the others closely resembling this one but without any hang problems.

If anyone has an idea as to what the problem is or how to solve it I would really appreciate knowing! I grow tired of watching the blue spinning circle.

Thanks so much for your time!

Try opening the project in safe mode. To open a project in safe mode hold the SHIFT key while opening the project.

Thank you for your quick response, scook. I will indeed try opening in safe mode but then what? What do you think that this means if it does open in Safe Mode? If you have any ideas on what to do next please advise and thanks again for your help!

PS: Or, are you saying to just always open it in Safe Mode from then on? I wouldn't be able to use everything that way would I? I mean the various Plug-ins and such.

Thank,

Opening a project in Safe mode allows you to selectively choose which plugins are enabled for that project.  You can use Safe mode to let you know which plugin is causing the project not to load normally.  Once you have isolated the problem Plugin, you can then save the project (suggest under a different name)

Thanks promidi and scook for the help. I see what you mean now about "safe mode"-not like MS safe mode but actually something useful! This may well be the single, best thing that Cakewalk has ever done, I mean, it actually works and very quickly too.

Thanks again scook for pointing me in the right direction and promidi for explaining it further.

Still haven't found the precise problem but I surely will thanks to this safe mode thing.

Small update that's not looking good for Sonar-

So far, using the safe mode feature pointed out to me by scook, it appears that it is a Sonar x3 plug-in that's causing the problem. I wouldn't think that this could happen but I am now using nothing but Sonar plugs and I still am seeing the problem. It appears not to be the compressor or the EQ thus far, which is good for sure. It would be difficult living without those two!

Thanks again for your help

Hey bobernaut . . . so you've determined it's a Sonar plugin, which one ? . . . if you are using a lot of plugins in your project it can take a while using "safe mode" to diagnose which one is the offending plugin. If you think it's a Sonar plugin, maybe it's an outdated version of that plugin. It's also possible that it's a plugin that uses a lot of system resources, such as a "look ahead" type plugin like LP-64 Multiband or LP-64 EQ.

There are many, Many reasons why a project can get stuck in a loop.
If you have managed to open the project in safe mode, you can export, or drag and drop your tracks to a new project. This can eliminate a multitude of issues associated with your software setup, or just the way that particular project is set up in that particular space on your hardware.
If all your other projects are working fine with the same plugins, then it 'may' help to move this project to another place on the HDD and then re setup your plugins. It's kind of akin to doing an old fashioned defrag and has fixed the exact same issue on my computer on more than one occasion.

Are you running both X3 and Platinum as administrator?  I seem to remember that some of the X3 stuff still needed that.

Hey! Thanks so much all you guys for helping out, I do really appreciate it greatly!!

Now, to try to answer some things that you all asked...

Noynekker, I have most likely eliminated 3 plugs so far: Compressor, basic EQ (not LP-64), and channel tools. Although I wouldn't completely bet against those 3 just yet.
I am slowly re-adding the plugs and then saving-over and over. I was already developing a creeping feeling about what you suggested: Multi-band and LP-64. I did actually switch to the LP-64 and add the multi-band right about the same time that this irritating problem began. So, I think that you saying this really goes some way toward helping to locate the problem. I will switch back to the basic EQ and dump the multi-band, for now anyway. Hopefully, this is where some or all of the problems lie.

Many thanks to you for your help!

Hey rebel007, thanks for your suggestion too. I was actually also beginning to entertain the exact same thing that you spoke of. It is a fine feeling to hear that someone else has had this same problem and I thank you for coming forth with your story! I have never had these sort of problems before, and this is when I ran Reason concurrently with Sonar, so I was surprised when this began happening. I will be trying what you suggested if this doesn't stop very soon.

dwardzala, thanks for you help also. To answer your question, I do not have Platinum, but the one right beneath it-whatever that is called-Pro, I think. I don't really know what that means, to run as admin, I never have known! I just bring up Sonar on my desktop and go from there. This has always worked before this. It is curious about the problems you spoke of though. How would I log in as admin? Do you mean on windows or Sonar? Thanks for your suggestion!

Thanks guys, I will try some of this stuff out and be back soon.
