  • How to fix Audio device error in X3 using win 10

I have been using X3 and XLN Addictive Drums 2 just fine on Windows 7. Once I upgraded to Win 10, I re-registered
with XLN, but I'm still getting audio device error.

My computer works just fine outside of X3. I have Firewire talking to my Focusrite Pro 24 device just fine, but
now I think there's an additional problem, perhaps with XLN.

If I close XLN and just run audio tracks only, it seems fine. WHen I load XLN, not so good. But again,
I have already registered anew with XLN for Win 10. Its something else.

Anyone know? Please let me know - I'd hate to roll back to Win 7.

Hi. Sorry if this is obvious, but did you remove your old pc from your XLN Audio account? Do you get a error message when opening AD2, and if so, what is it? What kind of problems are you experimenting?
All the best.

Go into preferances and check your audio drivers are still the same as before.
Possibly the upgrade has messed with your drivers,, or there are new drivers just for windows 10 and you need to download and install them. The audio error message is normally about a driver error. Sometime on board ( and asio4all) audio drivers take over.

Thanks for your help guys - right now I'm baffled.

1. I was able to remove all XLN references to my old pc id.

2. I registered with the new ID.
3. I can run X3. I'm not saying I can't. Its just that with XLN loaded, after about 3 seconds of play, I'll
get a dropout, and then when I reset I get "unable to open audio device." and then sometimes I get a message
about not recognizing the audio format of the project.

4. IT doesn't do this all the time. Sometimes I can play the project for a bit and no error. Other times I try it
again, and it abends in 2 seconds. No pattern or predictability.

I checked all the Device settings in Preferences - exactly the same as in Windows 7. The Firewire chipset is fine, and compatible. No reported issues. FOcusrite plays great outside of X3, and all settings in device manager are correct.

I am SO baffled. I tell you, if Windows 10 is making my mobo perform bad, then I'm sunk. Admittedly its an Intel Core 2 Duo E6700. Its just that it works GREAT with Win 7!

Am I hosed?

Have you tried to check for updates in the XLN online installer? I believe there were an update not too long ago.

Not sure but a old mobo like that ,,was it hard to find the updated drivers for windows 10?? or did you just let windows update automaticly?.
In there effort to get everybody on windows 10 they allow real stupid updates to happen.. They will tell you just about any system is "OK" to upgrade but that is BS. If theyre are no drivers your system will be hooped.
I would go back to windows 7 with that mobo.. it was made for it.

Best money spent would be grab a SSD drive for $100 and install W7 64 bit.. betcha every thing will work out fine after that and the SSD will perk up your old system nicely.
