I have an 1818VSL, and was inches away from swapping it for the Studio 192, not so much that I'd do a lot of recording at 192 kHz (I don't even use 96 kHz all the time), but I know support for the VSL line is waning, and there are a couple features that caught my eye.

Then UA started shipping their Twin USB.

I've been a fan of the UA plugins since the days of the Mackie branded cards, so I figured why not give it a spin (my local dealer would have taken it back had I hated it.)

I expected good converters, I expected better than average microphone preamplifiers, I did not expect the Unison technology to make much of a difference. But it does.

The downside, of course, is I have a lot fewer inputs and outputs, and I am still wrestling with that. I can get 8 more inputs using a Lightpipe equipped converter, so I'm not completely lost.

Using their Unison enabled preamplifier and guitar amplifier models really is pretty amazing. If you can afford to use fewer inputs, and you like UA plugins you might just want to check this out.

On the other hand, if you don't need the plug-ins, and you do need the inputs or outputs, I think you can't go wrong with the Studio 192.

Bill    I was thinking along those UA Twin usb lines myself, and bought the OctoPre II to go with my 18i20 while I budget for it.

I've been using a Motu 2408 mk3.. which is PCIe.  Sonar reports the roundtrip latency for that is 11ms at 24/48, the Presonus 192 was double that latency, which really surprised me, thinking USB3 would be faster, just isn't the case.  The presonus tech tells me the 192 performs the same via USB2 or USB3.

I have the 192 going out via Optical, into my 2408 and into the PC at this point

The SOS review of the Studio 192 was less than flattering, especially for RTL. I was going to buy one but after reading reports of horrible RTL I looked elsewhere as most of my work involves in the box orchestra, big band type music.

I did read that article as well.  Hoping presonus works some magic with future driver releases!  I didn't notice any latency with a buffer of 256 via USB3.. when using Omnisphere.  The 192 does have some great features for sure.

For sure! Hopefully it's just a matter of fine tuning the driver. The 192 does have some great features, especially when coupled with Studio One v3 but still excellent for workflow with any DAW. I was stoked when I saw it finally released but then the reports from users started surfacing and that killed it for me. If I were just using it outside the box or as an interface for my gigging rig I would buy it in a second as it has a lot of bang for the buck and hardware wise it seems to be pretty solid. But I need low RTL so that ended that, at least for now.
