  • If I double click a clip, I want to see that clip

This is something that broke in recent upgrades somewhere along the line, but when I double-click a MIDI clip I expect to be taken to the Piano Roll and to have that clip visible in the Piano Roll.

What has started happening is that Piano Roll opens, but at whatever the Now Time is. That is almost never what I would want.

I agree that double clicking a MIDI clip should open THAT clip in piano roll view but Sonar never did that. A new clip tab opens but you then need to click on that new tab, typically on the far right. This is not new behavior though. I do agree that the clip should be open right after double clicking it.

I don't know what you're referring to but I've been doing this for years and it always used to open a new Piano Roll window centred on the thing I clicked on. Since the X series I've always had it 'floating', not tabbed.

I just noticed this yesterday.  A bit of a pain.  I haven't gone back to see when it started though.  Have you reported this problem reporter/support?

There was an option somewhere to select this "double click" behavior.  Sorry, I don't remember where it is.  I haven't checked for it in Platinum.

For me, the PRV always opens with the time that you clicked centered. But the Now time stays where it is unless you have Left Click Sets Now enabled in Track View options as Paul suggested.

Same here (I'm on Kingston).  The double click behaviour is in the Track View / Options TAB / Click behavior / Double click.

The "Left Click Sets Now" option doesn't change anything regarding this behaviour. I just tried it with it on and with it off - no difference. Similarly, the double click behaviour option for MIDI clips lets me specify Piano Roll (the default, I think), but not the time at which it opens.

If I double click on a clip to open it in the Piano Roll, I want to see it in the Piano Roll. I don't see there's any reason why it should show me the Now time. If I wanted to see the clip at the Now time, I could click that clip instead.

I've not reported it as a problem, at least in part because it seems like this might have been a conscious choice somewhere down the line. No idea why.
