  • If I double click a clip, I want to see that clip (p.2)

If I double click on a clip to open it in the Piano Roll, I want to see it in the Piano Roll. I don't see there's any reason why it should show me the Now time. If I wanted to see the clip at the Now time, I could click that clip instead.

Which Platinum update are you on Kylotan ?  On Kingston, the Now Time doesn't move and the view in the PRV is centered on where I double clicked [left button] and contains the clip I double clicked on.

Savoy, I don't know what you're trying to say, sorry.

Paul P, I'm on Manchester. This was also the case in Lexington. I don't remember when it started behaving this way but I think it was after one of the Platinum updates.

That's what happens here with Manchester, and is the expected behavior. Kylotan, there must be some preference that got changed or overwritten somewhere along the line. It doesn't seem to matter what click sets Now time. I just have it set to Options > Click Behavior > Double-Click > Piano Roll View. The clip isn't just centered horizontally, but vertically as well.

Double-click works fine for me too. Always centered. Still in Lexington, btw.

But Now Time behavior change if you using Smart Tool, Select Tool or Move Tool.

Select Tool: Now Time goes where you double-clicked.

Move Tool: Now Time does nothing.

Smart Tool: if you double-click on the midi clip name zone (cursor turns into Move Tool), Now Time does nothing. If you double-click below the midi clip name zone (cursor turns into Select Tool), Now Time goes where you double-clicked.

I know this doesn't help, sorry about that.

Whaddayamean it doesn't help, you may be on to something.  Nice rundown and tutorial on the effect of tool selection and pointer position within the clip.

Thanks for the tip !  I guess I was always clicking in the upper bar, without realizing it.

I mean all I wrote didn't help the OP issue.

I'm glad you find my post useful.

I use the PRV a lot, so I discovered the now time behavior by mistake.

Okay, I've found the bug.

Put a Drum Map on the MIDI track, and opening that clip in Piano Roll won't centre it on the click position.
Take the Drum Map off, and opening that clip in Piano Roll WILL centre it on the click position.

I can confirm this, but it's because with a drum map (for some reason), nothing happens when you double click in the header bar of the clip.  You have to click in the body of the clip, and then you activate the normal behaviour for clicking there.

Not exactly. If you have 'Left Click Sets Now' enabled, then double-clicking in the body of a drum-mapped clip will show you what you want, because it's moved the Now time to that position. It still seems to follow the rule of "Opening Piano Roll for a Drum Map clip always opens at the Now Time". It won't centre the Piano Roll on that clip if the Now time is, and remains, somewhere else.

Ok, I saw nothing happening because the Now Time was visible in Track View.  If it isn't, the view will scroll to make it visible.  I find this "always keep the Now Time visible" pretty confusing, visually.

So I agree that things happen exactly as you describe.  Looks like a bug with Drum Maps, that you should probably report.
