• SONAR
  • New Onset Graphic Shutters (Solved)

A few days ago all of the graphics within SPLAT (newest version) started lagging a bit. Stutter like, for lack of a better term. It didn't coincide with the newest SPLAT update (I updated the day it was released) or changes to any other softwares. There are no slowdowns with the graphics on Studio One or Reaper so I doubt that it's an over all system bog down.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

I heard this earlier today from another user about PRV controller view seeing a stutter.
im wondering now if there was a new windows update that may have disrupted something or vice versa,
there is an update you may be missing.

are you all to date on windows updates ?
Video card updates ?

I believe sonar uses a different graphics engine to produce its views.
Reaper and Studio one are not on the same open GL as far as I know.
these updates are critical to performance and every day use.

In the immortal words of Herman Cain, "I don't have facts to back this up" but Studio One and Reaper are cross-platform so I believe Chuck is right - they don't sink their claws as deep into Windows, and SONAR is a graphics-intensive program. I'd definitely check for graphics card updates.

Sometimes stuttering is caused by hitting the pause key. This causes graphics to update at several second intervals. The purpose of it is to save resources back when it mattered. I've never done it on purpose.

+1, try the pause key, that is a CPU conservation mode that causes the GUI to update at 1 second intervals. If audio is not affected in any way, having hit the pause key is most likely the cause.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I tried the pause button, updated my video drivers and installed the latest update from Windows but the graphic behavior is still the same. Also, now time marker skips and the clock only updates every half bar.

I just opened old projects in X1, X2 and X3 and and they all performed fine. Hmmm, I guess I'll try a roll back to the last update.

well, the rollback didn't help.

I figured out the problem. The slowness was caused by running Sonar in Windows 8 compatability mode.

I never would have guessed at that one
