Simply minimising the track only prevents gui originated changes, not eg kbd shortcuts, which could also be prevented by introducing a gui layer on top of the track to intercept clicks, which also allows for still seeing what's in the track

Also, this thread seems to be going the way of the "record synth output" threads from about a year ago ;-)

In answer to, how often this happens, to me, pretty much too many times to count scrolling in console view, enough that it is somewhat annoying to have to readjust parameter if noticed immediately, more so if much later, and if having to revert to previous mix scene(s) or project files to check levels, then back to current one and readjust parameters.
Perhaps for scrolling thing, if you could say hold "ctrl" or "S" or other key, to turn mouse wheel to allow scrolling only, regardless of where mouse is hovering may be more simple thing to implement, than a track/parameter lock feature?

I think if this is to get any traction from Cakewalk it's important to offer a proposed clickstream. As this would be a more advanced feature that would likely be used by a relatively small number of users, it needs to be something unobtrusive.

I suggested ctrl+click on Archive, but that was a stupid idea because it interferes with Quick Grouping. Alt+click wouldn't have that problem, but I think the best option I've come up with so far would be to have a "Lock Track Edits" menu item in the Tracks drop-down menu (TV) and Track drop-down menu (Console view) so you could Lock a bunch of ctrl+clicked tracks at once.

It seems more like a type of freeze. In addition to the current freeze there could be a selection for a "soft" freeze which would have a separate group of settings in the freeze option dialog. The snowflake might change color (maybe yellow) to reflect which freeze is active.

Thanks Craig, lock track edits sounds good, it may be more used than thought if available, while this may be more complicated what about being able to lock individual parameters, right click "lock"? (by the way I cant seem to get snap to current to work, it always jumps back to 0.0 level, not to where I set it?).

Please read Week 11's tip, "'Dual Defaults' for Control Settings," in "Friday's tip of the Week" and it will all make sense. Short form is you can have different defaults for Track View and Console View controls, but there's much more to the story than that...you can do a lot with default control settings. It's a very powerful feature that adds another dimension to the mixing process.

that Controls group tip was a highlight for me.
I use it pretty loyally now. what I like it for is when you get to a point in a mix where you need to begin again with a group of instruments (not start over) but just begin again. you start moving faders and change things..
but it always gives you a way to get back to point A.  (pretty much what the OP wants )

its one of those features in Sonar that is like an Easter Egg (at least for me)

I've only scanned this thread so may have missed this option: create a new view using the Track Control Manager (drop down widget above left hand pane of track view) and only leave the controls you want to edit in the new view.
