Hello, new Sonar user here. I have a midi drum track (several minutes in length), and when I try to edit notes in the piano roll, I experience very sluggish behaviour, especially when zooming in and out horizontally. If I open a shorter midi clip (f.ex. a couple of bars), everything is fine. My computer is new and very capable of audio tasks (i7 Skylake, 16GB RAM), and I don't experience this in other DAWs. Anyone experienced this before or have any tips?

Thanks!

If I go to View - Show/hide controller pane and turn that off, everything is much better.

I can't think of why this would be sluggish.

How intensive are the synths in the project?  What else is running on the PC?
The only obvious reason would be your RAM being bogged down, but 16Gb should be more than enough...

Thanks for chiming in. Just by choosing to not view anything else than the midi notes, I'm working normally again. This is recorded with a midi drum kit, so maybe there's some midi data that has been recorded in a quantity that makes Sonar sluggish. I can tell from my resource monitor that nothing is spiking.

have you tried adjusting your buffers in preferences ?
does that make a difference ?

it doesn't matter if your computer came from NASA, if your running sonar without an audio card some adjustments are going to need to be made.
do you have a sound card ? (onboard audio/ outboard sound card ?)

What version of SONAR? There was one update released year that had this issue with zooming tracks with controllers in the PRV; it was fixed in the next update.

Thanks, I have a SPL Crimson audio interface. I think it gets a bit better with higher buffer sizes, but that might be my mind playing tricks on me. And it's not sluggish all the time either. I noticed that the automation for some reason lowers and increases the master volume of the entire instrument track, so there's definitely something going on there. Newest version of Sonar Professional.

Are there any tempo changes in the project? The GUI slows down for me in the areas that have tempo changes. At least it does with wave files.

No tempo changes. There's a meter change further on though, but not where I'm experiencing this. The piano roll is still very sluggish sometimes without showing automation etc, so any help appriciated! The rest of Sonar is very snappy and responsive at all times.
