I thought Sonar was only good for 2 machines.  Of course I back up my work files often.

So what about the newer releases?

Every version of SONAR is licensed the same way. There in no restriction on the number of times SONAR may be installed. You are permitted to use one machine at a time but there is no problem installing on another machine.

If you have the means, do the upgrade to lifetime Platinum member

I don't know if I need to go that far.  I guess I'll just do more research of talk to CW directly.  thanks

In the meantime, (if you have not already) check this page http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Versions to compare what is accessable at this time.
But if you do not need anything besides what you have, and everything is working to your expectations, you could stay with SONAR 7. The only issue(s) might be due to OS and perhaps (updated) Audio Interface drivers down the line.
I would still say that if you have the means, do the upgrade. Even for no other reason (besides all the new features and bug fixes) than to easier get help as you are on a current version, which again will mean more people to help if issues should occur.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

There will be a learning curve, but the new features certainly make upgrading worth it provided your audio interface can support Windows 10.

Take a quick look at Sonar Explained over at Groove3:

Or you can download the demo here and just dive in to see if it will work for you.
I am not sure if the new Sonar will work with your existing Sonar...Experts in using very old versions with new weigh in here.

Things like Aux Tracks and Patch Points make life so much easier "in the box".  Parallel processing is a dream come true for me with Sonar.

Backup to VHD file format. Then you can use it as a source for restore or a virtual machine/hard drive if you quickly want to get at the content.

I've got projects that were created in Sonar 8.x and Sonar Platinum works fine with the old stuff for me. It will convert some stuff on import, though it may need some tidying up after a project is first imported.
