  • Plugin Manager Calling Up Wrong Plugins

I remember this problem going all the way back to at least Sonar 8.5 and perhaps earlier. Today it was really bad working in Sonar X3 Producer (Win 7 64Bit).  The Plugin Manager which I have customized to list my favorite plugins keep calling up the wrong instrument plugin. Load the first instance of Poly-Ana and Poly-Ana loads.  Load  another instance of Poly-Ana and BFD Eco loads and all subsequent attempts to load Poly-Ana loads BFD.  Another time it loaded a Cakewalk plugin when trying to load another synth. The only solution is to close Sonar and reload it.

I know this is a known bug discussed before but did anyone ever find a solution or workaround for this annoying problem ? Why does this bug still exist in X3 ? This bug should have been fixed in X1 or X2 or X3.....No, I can't update anymore.

Yes I've seen this happen before, certainly in older version maybe going back as far as 6PE

But I've not had it happen in Splat (yet)

Would a full reset and rescan help this kind of thing?

Can't hurt, could help

Reset + rescan does seem to solve a number of "intermittent" issues with plug-ins.

I could do a rescan. Like you said it can't hurt. But like I said this has been going on intermittently over the years. Today it was probably the worst I've ever seen it which is what prompted this thread.  I assume Sonar simply calls up a plugin based on it's VST ID number. It seems like it gets "confused" from time to time.  Shut down and restart always fixes it for awhile anyway. I'll re-save my custom Plugin Layout again that couldn't hurt either.  Thanks for the help.........

I've seen this many times in X3 and I think I've seen it at least once in Splat too. Something messes up Sonar's internal counting and it starts loading the synth or plugin adjacent to the one you click on in the menu, at least in my experience. Restarting Sonar would fix it for me.

I could do a rescan.

Note that reset+rescan is different from just a re-scan, and was required when upgrading to X3.

Not just a rescan, but also a reset.  I don't know if it would work, but I DO recall others having some success when doing both a reset and a rescan.  It certainly should not hurt anything to try doing both.

Yes I did both when upgrading to X3.  I did both yesterday but it's hard to tell if it fixed anything in the long term. This bug is intermittent and I have never found a trigger event or precursor. It just seems to start happening out of the blue for no apparent reason. I use 4 DAWS and I've never had any of the other 3 pull up a wrong plugin......

Did you happen to have your antivirus software running while Sonar was installing?  I had a couple of times in the past where I had post-installation issues with a Sonar version (either X1 or X2, cannot recall which), and when I did a reinstall, with my antivirus suspended, everything worked fine after that.

I think I may have been running AVG at the time - I have switched to Avast since then - smaller memory footprint and better overall, and free.

But it might be worth a shot to try a COMPLETE removal of X3, followed by a temporary suspension or termination of your antivirus/anti-adware software, and then an install of X3.

Doing the uninstall and a clean install would not adversely affect any of your projects, so it shouldn't hurt anything.

Are you running X3e?  That was the most up to date maintenance level for Sonar X3.  If you are not currently running with the 'e' maintenance release of X3, you do not need to install the a, b, c, or d maintenance, just download and install X3e over whichever maintenance version of X3 you have, or if you do the uninstall and install of X3 then just run X3e right after that.

I will be out of town for about a week, leaving in about an hour for the airport, but I will try to pop in when I can and see if the above worked or try to further assist as I can.
