Hey,
Upgraded from X3 to Platinum.   Got all my plugins in and ready to go.
I arm the track and press the record button and nothing happens.
The track is playing and the bar is going across the screen, but the record button stays unlit
and nothing is recorded.   There is a signal in the meter, but at least a line should go across the
screen as I record...but nothing.
I can't get the darn record button to work.
Any suggestions?!

Only a guess, but is Punch Record (Auto-Punch) inadvertently enabled?
 

That was it.  In settings...auto punch.
Never would have found that.

this has got me a few times as well.
in my case
 
1- I use punch in.
2- forget its on.
3- go to a new track and them I am baffled why record wont work
