Sonar has its newest user - I bit the bullet and purchased Sonar Lifetime a few minutes ago as my first DAW.  Some of you may remember I started a thread a few weeks ago asking some very basic questions about keyboards and home recording.  The thread dragged on for several pages because so many of you were kind enough with your time to answer my many questions.

Quite honestly, Cakewalk wasn't even on my radar (I was trying to decide between Studio One and Reaper) until they announced the Lifetime updates.  Clearly, Splat is more than I will ever need, but purchasing once forever (however long that may be) appealed to me.  The great help I received from this forum made the decision easy.

Someone suggested purchasing a Tascam interface to get the SonarLE, saving me money on SPLAT.  That did work like a charm, so thank you.  Using the July4th coupon, I was also able to get the Rapture Pro and ZTA Bundle for $50 - seemed like a decent enough deal to me.  So, I think I am set for a long time.

I also purchased the Sonar training series on Groove3 (also due to a suggestion on this forum).  I look forward to spending time to learn about Sonar and recording.  I apologize in advance for all the uber basic questions I'm sure I will be asking.

I'll start with one - in my Command Center now, I have 3 "Raptures" listed - "Rapture Session", "Rapture Pro", and "Rapture."  Since I purchased the Rapture Pro, I assume this is the one I should install, and not install "Rapture Session" or "Rapture" - correct?

Again, thank you all for your help.  I'm excited about Sonar.

The Rapture Pro and ZTA Bundle for $50 is an absolute steal!

This is an excellent purchase and will stand you in good stead for most synth needs

There's no point in installing Rapture as all of it's sounds are contained within Rapture Pro

Rapture Session is similar but doesn't have the editing capabilities of Rapture or Pro and is a little lighter on system resources so it's really up to you.

FWIW I've got all 3 installed.

Welcome to SONAR Land!

I started with Studio One and a new model PreSonus interface. I now use SONAR exclusively, with a Tascam interface. I will leave out the intervening lengthy list of nightmares with the former. Congratulations on selecting the latter as your first choice. You will never be sorry.

Aside from the actual bugs that kept me from having beneficial use of my PreSonus products (and yes, SONAR has them too), the biggest factor when selecting a replacement was this forum. The Reaper forum is pretty good, but here, you'll find mostly grownups (except for Bapu; he'll never grow up ). The second biggest factor, tied with the first for importance, is that real, actual Cakewalk people participate in this forum.

This is a place for everybody helping everybody else get better.

Feels like home to me!

If you are just staring out, you can skip installing Cakewalk Sound Center, Dimension Pro, Rapture and Rapture Session. All of their programs and content are included in Rapture Pro.
