Jump to paragraph 3 if you want to skip over the mumbo-jumbo ...

So I'm in the process of building things for fun and upgrading the overall look and efficiency of my studio. Managed to hack together an admittedly nice looking studio rack/storage shelf as well as a desktop stand for my screens using an old shelf I got for $4 at a resale shop.

Right now ya'll can see I'm using Alesis 3's set directly ON the desktop wth a piece of wood to angle them up slightly. Since right now I'm not quiiite financially in the position to get a new set of better monitors, (looking first to upgrade my cans, owing some bills, having just lost a 2tb HDD and a few days from finally purchasing a new phone), I was thinking to stick with these for a few more months until I save a couple hundred more that I can put toward those.

To get to the point, is there any point in building monitor stands to lift the tweeters the necessary ~10in to be at or around ear level? Or would tweeter height make that much of a difference?

I would recommend them.  If you can afford them, IsoAcoustics makes a decent, relatively inexpensive stand.  I have a set for my Yamaha monitors and it raises them about 8-10" to get them off the desk and at ear level.

I may invest. Only issue is now I've got a too-narrow desk and three (roughly) seamless monitors so any stand would block my vision. I may get the shorter ones just to get some height on them and then compensate with tilt.

Edit; another concept that came to me was suspending them from the ceiling.. would be cheap a pretty simple because they're lightweight and I've got tons of wooden slats I can use in the basement to build a support for them to hang from. Hmm!!
