Last night I went to see Peter Knight's Gigspanner at a church in a nearby village that has become a great local venue for mostly folk orientated gigs. As someone said, the vicar is happy to allow "the devil's music" to help the upkeep of the building.

During the interval I found myself next the great Peter Knight in the queue to the gents. I jokingly said "at least I won't miss the start of your second set", any further conversation was curtailed when a delightful little boy with learning difficulties started to tell Peter he was "fantastic", and then tell him that he himself was a brilliant guitarist and he was writing songs. The boys father indicated that this was mostly fantasy but Peter humoured him and the boy seemed very happy.

For those who don't know. Peter Knight was the violinist with Steeleye Span in the 70's heyday and his current project Gigspanner has a very fresh and inventive approach to traditional music. He is not someone resting on his laurels and back catalogue.

I love this dark arrangement of "Death and the Lady" and it's video

Bill Wyman was very fond of children. Remember Mandy Smith?

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a hotel on an island near Twickenham, not too far from a great city known as London.
The island had a very strange name it was called "Eel Pie Island" and the hotel was named after it.
Once upon another time in 1963 a young fella we'll call John visited this island from time to time as he lived nearby in a little village called Pyrford.

Later, in 1965, he watched a clever person called Eric who played guitar for a band called the Blues Breakers.
He helped another John get his Hammond onto the stage.
In those days you could take a pee alongside Mick or any of the others.

It's good to have goals in life.

Yeah! But I did that more than 50 years ago.
Been wondering ever since what to do with my life.

I know the feeling, although you might have a few years on me.

The last time I was in Wellingborough was playing rugby as a schoolboy against Wrenn.

Ah, Wrenn. I pass it regularly on the way to the shops.
I think it has the status of an "academy" now, whatever that means.
I'm a newcomer to the area, having moved here form my last location in Germany, not far from Bonn, where I spent ten years.
The last time I played rugby was as a schoolboy too, but that was in another life, on another continent.
I take it from the signature that you're a fan of Rowan?

Fan of Rowan? Is that a euphemism like "fan of Dorothy"?

I'm guessing you mean Rowan Atkinson. In which, case yes, but the signature is unrelated.
