It may sound simple, but I find it really strange.
 
I started to use Sonar Home Studio from a new device, and everything was just fine, even with midi sounds. Then, I connected my Focusrite 6i6 audio interface to record midi from my keyboard and set it as midi input in Preferences. From then on, no audio coming out from Sonar. The midi signal does arrive (it is shown on the track) but no sound comes out, would it be when I record, just play notes or reproduce them. Is it just this? No. Here are some other strange things:
 
1- midi sound does not come out in ANY way, even when writing notes on piano roll (wich, by the way, now has changed: when I draw a note it also draws a vertical line now; I don' t know why and looks annoying)
2- not only midi sound doesn't come out, but also audio sound doesn't. If I try to export projects with midi notes and working VST I don't hear anything from them, but I do if I export projects with audio tracks (though I can't hear them on Sonar)
3- that' s the the strangest thing: it won't come out even if I disconnect my Focusrite and change Prefernces in the way they were before (or in any possible way). The strangest thing is that before connecting my Focusrite, IT DID WORK. Audio came out, midi sound came out, when i placed notes with piano roll they made sound...then it looks like I could change it by connecting my Focusrite but can' t change it back in any way!
 
Some addicional info:
 
1-when I try to select audio outputs in Preferences with my Focusrite connected, I can only select 3 Focusrite audio outputs (beside them I can see 4 realteck asio hd outputs, but they are greyed). If I try to do it with my Focosrite disconnected, I can select those Realteck outputs, but nothing changes).
2- when I open Sonar HS again now, a dialogue box appears, saying that there is no audio device for driver model in the system and to select a different model driver in "reproduction and recording". Another thing that has start to show only after I connected my Focusrite and that keeps showing regardless of the fact that the audio interface is connected or not. I have no idea of what it does mean though.
 
Well...I can't seem to find a way out from this. Would be glad if anyone could help.

First, just to be clear. MIDI is not a sound, MIDI is a communication protocol. What you are recording are messages transmitted via MIDI. In a nutshell, you are never going to to hear MIDI sound.
When you record a track, you are simply recording messages which are sent to your MIDI device device to trigger sound.
This sound is output by the Audio Device based on how things are connected.

Why is the above statement important? Because if you are not getting sound but seeing MIDI data recorded to track, then this may not have anything to to do with MIDI messages not getting to your MIDI device but rather your sound source.

Based on the information you provided, you switched to a new Audio Interface and now nothing works.
Have you used the Focusrite before? Did you properly installed the drivers and restarted your computer?

Are you attempting to use a Soft-Synth or an external (hardware) synth? When you look under Audio Devices, do you see the Focusrite selected/indicated as an Audio Device, and are all applicable Inputs/Outputs selected under devices?

Finally, can you record an instrument to an Audio Track (without MIDI)?

The RealTeck is your Computer Generic Audio device. That should never be in there, unless you are uisng your computer for general traditional work, the Local and or Generic Audio Device should be disabled to avoid any conflict.

So try this, Go to your Local Audio Device, RealTeck and disable it. On my system, I disabled this in the BIOS/Settings but you can do this by going to Device Manager and selecting your Audio Device (RealTeck), right click and select disable. Restart Sonar HS.

Make sure your Focusrite is properly installed and that all inputs and outputs are selected in Sonar.

Yeah. It seems to me you have earlier used the integraded MIDI sound library with the Realtek. Now, with a new audio interface you should learn to use soft synths. Does Home Studio include TTS-1?
For a starter, make sure you have Focusrite's ASIO driver installed (not ASIO4ALL), and use that.

The sounds from the RealTek were coming out of your computer speakers, right?
Using the Focusrite, you can't use the computer speakers. Connect an amplifier and speakers to the 6i6 to hear audio from it.
Also, what is your MIDI keyboard? If it doesn't have speakers and the MIDI track's output is set to the Focusrite, you won't hear MIDI.

This is probably the first thing you need to do.  Move your speakers or sound system from the original computer audio output to the new Focusrite.  Or at least plug some headphones into the Focusrite.  The Focusrite should now be your computer's main audio source.

Ok, so...first of all, I know the difference between midi and audio. Maybe I expressed myself in the wrong way. I was just triyng to say that I can' t hear any sound when EFFECTED midi notes play into my daw (when I should hear the vst instrument, if all was working normally) or when I export it (and I export it as audio, obviously).
 
 
This saied, I think I did install proper Focusrite drivers (found on Focusrite site, and checked they were exately the ones for my specific sound card).
 
 
Talking about inputs and outputs, I can see all the Focusrite inputs/outputs in preferences and they are all avaiable.
 
 
The problem is that what I actually needed (and this may be the central point) was to use my focusrite to record my keyboard, AND THEN HEAR THE SOUND OUT OF MY SPEAKERS. So, in this moment, I don' t want sound to come out from my Focusrite (using amps or speakers connected to it) but from the speakers of my pc, the same ones I used to listen to any normal audio file, and wich I used to listen to everything into my daw until now.
Another important thing is that, if I just couldn't hear sounds into my daw but notes were actually playing, I should hear those notes outside the daw after I exported them as audio and I closed Sonar. But that doesn' t happen, so it's like there isn't any actual hearable sound even if there should be (when I play my project, green lights appear on the tracks playied). So...to put this in a simple way, making more clear what I need:
 
1-how can I hear sound from speakers linked to my pc, inside Sonar HS?
2-how can I export that project as an audio file and actually hear something from it?
3-how can I use my Focusrite to record my keyboard while hearing something from the notes I play?
 
Those were all things I used to do without any problems on my old device (Windows 10 too) with my old Fast Track Pro soundcard and I am just looking to do the same with another one.

The answer to your question is in your Preferences panel. Set your Focusrite to receive MIDI and your Realtek for audio playback. If it doesn't work -- and I don't think it will, because I don't think you can run two audio drivers at the same time -- you'll have to use the Focusrite for playback. Before you buy speakers, plug some headphones into front of the 6i6.

IMPORTANT EDIT: I succeded in making sound come out again while not having my Focusrite connected. I did it by disconnecting my Focusrite and then restarting Sonar HS and checking all the "Realtek ASIO HD audio output" boxes. Then audio came out again from my speakers when reproducing (here I would like to attach an image from my desktop to show you what I mean but the "from gallery/upload --> selec from an option below" command is empty ).
But, guess what? When I connect my Focusrite again a message titled "missing audio ouputs" appears. The message sayes: "the following audio outputs units used by this project are not avaiable. Reassign them to another avaiable unit, or click OK to accept default assignments". And obviously it shows that the "not avaiable" output is the Realtek ASIO HD audio output, while the only avaiable one is "Focusrite USB audio output 1". After that I cannot assign Realtek Asio output anymore in my audio preferences (they are greyed) and only Focusrite USB audio outputs appear avaiable to check or uncheck. So basically it' s like I cannot use my speakers as outputs in any way when my Focusrite is connected...
 
ok...WHY????!!!! I could understand it if it had always been the way it was, but the fact that I want to highlight is that with my Fast Track Pro on my older device I DID IT! The program reassigned automatically the midi input using the Fast Track Pro (so I could use it to record with my keyboard) but the audio output didn't change so I could still hear sound from my speakers, and hear what I played, when I played my keyboard connected with midi cable. Why does it oblidge me to use the sound card as audio device now, then? And also why preferences don't automatically change when I connect/disconnect my Focusrite while sometimes they do? And also why the "missing audio outputs" with the reassignment options does appear only sometimes? And- I think that at this point it's clear that this is the most important question of all- why are Realtek audio outputs not avaiable???
I' m trying to figure out a "rule" at the base of all this, but it seems to me that it' s all acting randomly and it's driving me mad!
Side note, before anyone says it's all Asio's fault: when I did it with my Fast Track Pro, I was using Asio.
 
Can anyone help me find a logical explanation to all this, please?
I' m really at a dead point and can't get out of it.

Change driver mode from ASIO to WDM or WASAPI.  ASIO only allows one audio device to work at a time.
