  • CbB Transport Control Bar locked after new install

I have been running CbB on my DAW ever since it was first released, pretty much without issues. So I finally decided to install it on my laptop. It installed fine, but it won't work. I've tried a few different MIDI tunes with it, and a couple of audio only tunes, and none of them play back. The Transport Bar is frozen -- it won't respond to mouse clicks at all. Almost everything else about CbB works normally. After some investigation, I've discovered that a few more controls don't work -- some of the buttons associated with each track don't work either.  I figure that they aren't working for the same reason the Transport Bar isn't.

Anybody run into this? If so,would you care to share how you got things unstuck?

Thanks for the feedback, Scook. Unfortunately, that page specifically states that the situations it describes do not apply to Platinum, Professional, and Artist versions. And since CbB is built from the latest version of Platinum, then I feel it is safe to assume that these problems don't apply to it either. Also, those problems describe sliders and controls that behave in sudden snaps and swings. It does not mention at all frozen controls. So, anyway, the problem remains . . . .

I understand what the page says (similar <> same), the question remains is the display on the failing machine magnified in any way and if so, does eliminating the magnification solve the problem?

Have you considered it is a corrupt install?  Uninstall, reboot the PC and then reinstall.

scook, no magnification. The page looks the same as any of the other tunes I'm working on.

Fireberd, do you mean a corrupt install of SPlat?  This I have wondered about, whether or not my installation might have gotten corrupted. I've thought about a reinstall. But answer me this -- why was CbB -- the latest version that I'd upgraded to just before trying this tune with it -- why was it doing the same thing?

I think there's something corrupted about the song file itself. But I'll be dinged if I know how to fix it. The file is a fresh MIDI import from Band in a Box. The problem with the patches showed up immediately when I selected them after first loading the MIDI file into SPlat. But here's the thing -- I've done this same thing -- loading MIDI files from BiaB literally dozens of times in the recent past and not had any problem like this. I've found that, by and large, BiaB does a good job of converting its native format song files over to MIDI.

Your original post says CbB was installed for the first time on the laptop but you had the problems from the start.  You say you imported a standard audio file and it had problems with that.  Thus a corrupted install is a very good possibility and doing the uninstall (reboot PC) and new install would be a logical step.  As you just installed it and have only tested some files, nothing is lost by the reinstall.  It may not be the problem but the first step in troubleshooting this particular problem.

I do computer support and have seen corrupted installs over the years, and not just Sonar.

Ulp, um, fireberd, you need to disregard my response to you in the above post. I have two threads active here right now, and I managed to confuse the two. That post has to do with the other thread. It was late, I was tired and obviously confused.

Your point is noted about just doing a fresh install. I have occasionally run into a corrupted installation procedure before, but that was usually because of some bonehead mistake I made during the install or maybe too much other stuff also resident in memory. I didn't do anything stupid during the install, but I don't recall how much other stuff was running when I did it.. So I'll give it a try and do the uninstall and a fresh install when nothing else is running on the computer. And I'll report back.
