Guys,

I'm thinking of taking the leap from X3 to Platinum (and maybe from win 8 to win 10 at the same time)

I have a quad i5.

Will I get worse performance from moving from X3 to Platinum, or will it remain roughly the same?

Thanks!

Hi. Your performance will increase with both SONAR Platinum, and Win 10.
All the best.

Hi Eggster.
There is a great and measurable improvement in performance between X3 and platinum on any OS. That much is clear:)

When I upgraded my first win 7 system (that had been running win 7 for some time) to win 10,  I also saw a vast improvement. For me however, the performance difference between a clean install of win 7 and win 10 was far less impressive, leading me to the conclusion that a fair amount of the improvement people observe could well be due to a new install/upgrade rather than sheer performance increase. Just anecdotal observations though. YMMV of course.

Correct there are major optimizations in Platinum that will make it run much smoother than X3 or any earlier version (on any OS)

Thanks guys - it just worried me that the minimum system requirement for platinum is higher (i suppose obviously) than the system requirement for X3.

I noticed a considerable change in performance and stability.
also noticed a large change in crash recovery.
meaning: not that I crash often, but any time I used to crash in sonar it would take 10-15 minutes to recover (for sonar to release my audio driver)
now its almost instantaneously. if a crash happens, I just restart and sonar opens right up.

Go for it and get the life time update now that you can.
Peace

Well, I updated to Platinum and went windows 10.

What a nightmare that was. I've spent the whole weekend struggling with it, and now have a PC with no software on it at all.

Certain synths refused to open, some crackled an popped, others were so slow to start.

I'm not sure what the problem was (my ineptitude with computers, maybe)

At first I thought it was the Win 10 update, so I wiped the system, went Windows 10, and started afresh. Didn't work.

Went back to 8.1 and started afresh, now the stuff that worked fine before doesn't work.

Could it be my Onyx 400F? What on earth have I done?????

The moral of the story is : if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

:(

That's awful news Eggster! Did you use the rollback in win 10 to go back to 8.1 or a fresh install?

I used the function that allows me to wipe everything and go back to factory settings (as it arrived to me).

It is awful! I was so enjoying the flawless performance of my system previously. Silly me!

I guess my question is what do I do next?
