• SONAR
  • Midi map / transpose?

Hi all,

In Ableton I have a BFD3 drum track and I want the Midi to feed a secondary drum VST. BFD uses odd mappings so I have to transpose the Midi notes in the new track. What I do is tell the secondary track (say using NI Battery) to accept Midi from the BFD track. Then I insert a Midi utility that lets me remap the incoming Midi notes, so I can have them trigger the proper instrument in Battery. Set up this way, I can tweak the Midi on the BFD track all day long and the Battery track works fine with zero intervention.

How would I set this up in Sonar?

One way would have a master MIDI track routed to the MIDI/instrument tracks for the two synths with a virtual MIDI cable. A drum map on the Battery MIDI/instrument track would do the translation.

Thanks Scook. Is the virtual midi cable a new feature I've missed?

I love writing and arranging in Live, and I love mixing in Sonar. I have a project close by not quite ready for the mixing stage. I'd like to transition it to Sonar now though, for the comping features. I am hoping to not have to render everything to audio just yet to do the migration.

No, but here are two free ones: LoopBe1 and LoopMIDI
Maybe someday SONAR will have more MIDI routing options.
Maybe someday BFD will echo MIDI through the plug-in.

I think there is a setting in preferences somewhere where you can set the default note number, which may allow you to map starting from a different octave, and that might provide some assistance.  I have not tried this, but DO remember seeing the parameter in there somewhere.

thanks guys - I'll play around a bit and see. If I find a good solution, I'll post it.
