John, I mostly support and appreciate your posts but just felt you showed a bit of hyprocisy on this one. In as much as I don't know CAKES business model numbers, I don't think you can say with certainty that your MYTH suppositions are correct either, unless you have inside info, to which could you please share.

I am not sure how the term hypocrisy applies. Its used to say a person is saying one and doing another. Even if I am wrong there is no hypocrisy involved.

I think John has been one of the first people to criticize  these questiontion threads on lifetime upgrades he doesn't like or agree with but now when he open pandoras box, he has a hard time admitting that he could have worded his point of view better.

It isn't criticism its correcting bad information.
jimkleban
His MYTH statements are as bad as others suppositions in that they are the same thing.  This is a dead horse and I think we all have pretty much agreed that until CAKE clears up all these questions either with "time" or "clarification announcements, that everything is a GUESS.

The fact is the myths as I posted them are beliefs held by people that are untrue. Isn't that what a myth is?

Now, in business, the one thing you never want to do is say one thing now and do something different later.  You will get labeled a LIAR... it is far more advantageous to leave some ambiguity out there until you actually start the new program and adjust once you see real results.

There is no ambiguity except by some that insist on posing inaccurate information and causing confusion.

So, lets all just wait and see what happens and until then keep the "BLIND FAITH".

The reason I posted the OP was I read everything I could on the subject to get a full understanding of it. What I found was in complete disagreement with what many people were posting as fact. I thought I would post clear and easy to understand rebuttals to those false statements. There is no blind faith in any of this.

PS - another reason I have faith beyond the CAKEWALK statements is that I have been a long time reader of Craig A's articles (all the way back to EM days until now) and he has demonstrated that he is a stand up, knowledgeable guy.  I would n't be surprised if this lifetime upgrade thing might have been one of his "ideas".

Below is a post by Noel in the Lifetime updates vs Yearly Membership payment thread

"Oh man you guys are way overthinking this and confusing yourselves and others with these mile long threads.

Its very simple...

Lifetime updates = Annual updates x infinity

When you buy SONAR as a new user or as an upgrader we have always had some bundled extra's including 3rd party ones. We will continue to do so.  Now I'm speculating here myself since we haven't hit that point in time yet, but in SUBSEQUENT years after the first year of the lifetime membership, any extras that have been added at that time, or new HIGH cost features, may or may not be offered free. The final decision for this is solely Cakewalk's of course, but the chances are very high that most add on's will be considered core features or be offered at highly discounted prices to lifetime members. Lifetime members are treated as premium valued customers so we want to give them the maximum value. As has been said countless times - we believe in happy customers.

Now in response to the question of whether we will offer both lifetime and annual plans simultaneously, the answer is no. It would be too confusing to users and it provides no extra value to them. During the period that lifetime updates are being offered we will not offer an annual membership sku for new customers as well as existing users upgrading their membership.

You can see that today on our store here. If you buy Platinum as a NEW customer this is what you get:

http://www.cakewalk.com/P...w/SONAR-Platinum#start

Lifetime Updates included

When you buy this version of SONAR Platinum, you will receive every new core feature, enhancement, and even fixes for all future versions of SONAR
Limited time offer: Lifetime Updates will be available only through August 31, 2016. Act now to secure your lifetime updates. Pricing and availability subject to change.

On the other hand if you are renewing SONAR platinum membership you get this:

http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Renew
Add Lifetime Updates to SONAR Platinum which includes new core features, enhancements, and fixes for future versions of SONAR.

Notice that in both new user and upgrade cases only lifetime updates are being offered as opposed to an annual membership plan. I hope this clarifies the strategy going forward.

Hi there!
I need some Clarification. (Also posted in another thread)

I am currently a monthly subscriber, I have made 6 payments so far for Sonar Platinum, meaning I do not own it yet. So my question is: If I purchase the Lifetime Updates (€204). Would I still have to keep paying for the monthly fee for the next 6 months or can I cancel that subscription?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. Once you paid for your lifetime updates, cancel your monthly subscription as it does not happen automatically.
All the best.

Now, now boys(and girls) calm down. All this for a piece of 'software'. Hmmmm.
Are you making thousands or millions off this software. Then be a little concerned.
Are you a hobbyist. Then remain attentive and silent.
Are you new. Don't get caught up... and explore the software.
Are you happy. Then enjoy
Are you pissed off. Say adios and be silent.
Everybody will not always be happy. There are enough stumbling blocks in life to make this one of them. I agree with Craig. Don't worry....be Happy

This same thing happened with Fruity Loops some years back. It is now called FL Studio. However the lifetime updates still applies. Further a name change in and by itself is not going impact a contract made in good faith by a person with another. In fact it may be prohibited as a means of voiding a contract. At the very least it would open CW up to a slew of law suites.

No John, they did NOT honor the lifetime upgrade.....
I am a Fruity Loops owner.  I bought the Lifetime upgrades for Fruity Loops.  About 3 weeks after I bought it they came out with FL Studio.  My lifetime upgrade DID NOT work.  They said FL studio is a new program. You bought the lifetime upgrade for Fruity Loops.  If you look at the two programs there was not that much difference between FL and FL Studio, it should have been an upgrade.  It was only a plot for more money. I don't feel Cakewalk would ever pull a fast switch like this.
