  • SOLVED A Sonar and the UAD Apollo question

I recently have been enhancing the capabilities of my studio and starting using the ANALOG inputs of the UAD Apollo.  My question/issue (or ignorance) is that all of these digital INPUTS of these APOLLO analog inputs do NOT show up in my AUDIO set up options under preferences.

Example, I have an input into ANALOG 8.... it works, I can monitor and insert plugins on the APOLLO but there is NO WAY for me to record the APOLLO analog 8 in SONAR since there is no audio INPUT in my setup screen for ANALOG 8.

There is an ANALOG digital input 7 for the APOLLO's ANALOG input 7 and if I record a track in stereo (since I do see a STEREO 7/8 and a MONO 7 digital input in my setup), the right side with my signal does get recorded.

Also, the Apollo's ANALOGs 5 and 6 are also missing from the SONAR audio preferences.  I have activated (checked) every APOLLO input in my audio preferences (by the way, the names of these inputs are so long, you can't read the entire input name in the preference screen but I digress).

So, am I missing something with the SONAR setup?  Is there a problem with my APOLLO?  Or is this a potential SONAR bug/issue.

Thanks in advance for any help or light you may be able to shed,

Jim

If all of your Apollo I/O are enabled in SONAR Audio Options, they should automatically show up. It should look like the screen cap below from my Apollo Quad via a TB connection using FW800 audio drivers. Maybe Jim from Studio Cat has some insight as to why you are not seeing all of your I/O in SONAR. This was taken about a year ago when I was still on Win 8.1 and using an Apollo Quad with SPlat.

Thanks Billy....

On my system, this dropdown goes from the MIC/LINE inputs directly showing only LINE 7 and LINE 7/8 Stereo, no mono LINE 8 nor any lines 5 and 6.

I too am using TB over FW for my Apollo silver face.  I know that I have SONAR set at 96khz and 24 bit?  Perhaps asking too much of the interface?  This thought provokes a test in that I will reduce the sample rate of the project in SONAR and make sure the UA settings are lowered to 48khz and see if that makes a difference.

Back from the test...... your screen shot helped me a ton.  Notice how the LINE left and right both say the same number INPUT, turns out that the RIGHT LINE 7 is really LINE 8 and the LEFT LINE 7 is really LINE 7.

Total confusion.... the hardware now works as it is supposed, just the naming of the inputs are WRONG in SONAR.  I checked Soundforge audio preferences and they list the inputs correctly... there is a LINE 7 and a LINE 8.

My inputs in SONAR have 2 each of LINES 1 3 5 and 7 so one can only conclude since all is good in Soundforge that this naming issue is a SONAR bug/issue (or perhaps not in the illogical world of software development).

But, thanks for the insight.  You were helpful as usual.
