I bought Peter Erskine midi grooves from BFD yesterday, great stuff. Then checked them with almost every drum kit I own, it is more than 50, from AD2, SD3, BFD Eco, Sample Tank 3 and SI Drums. Due to mapping issues Sample Tank 3 was not an option.

To my surprise the clear winner was "Loose Kit" from now nearly forgotten SI Drums. Beautiful clear sound, as good or better than AD2 Black Velvet and/or any from Slate for SD3.

Thanks Afrodrum. TBH, I've never even looked into the SI Drums as I use AD2.......will definitely check it out. Take a look at EZ Player Pro for drum mapping. It can organize and preview all the MIDI on your hard drive.

Thanks Mesh. This looks incredibly useful. Should I pony up the 49 semolians or does it ever go on sale.

To be honest Rocky, I've had this for years (I think I got it free when I bought Superior) but haven't used it much....I know....I know........

BassDaddy is very familiar with this and swears by it....read his post here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/MIDI-File-OrganzierManager-m1736930.aspx

I think you'll get your money's worth as you can use it with most/any drum vst to do your mapping for you and you can mix & match any of the midi drums.

Thanks again Mesh! That thread led me to a deal the The Steven posted. Time & Space has it for $25: http://www.timespace.com/product/EZPP-120/6/EZplayer/toontrack_ezplayer_pro_%28serial_download%29.html

Rocky I think you will really like EZPlayer Pro.  I have had it for a number of years now.  I should point out that EZPlayer Pro is not just limited to MIDI drum loops or drum mapping. You can use any MIDI loop with it.  It is great for constructing MIDI horn and string parts.

Back to the attic: I used an "Expensive String Sound" from an excellent sound library in one of my songs. The song was later used in a Cakewalk demo, so to keep things all in the family, I used SI Strings instead. It actually sounded better...so I left it in and remixed the original song with it.

I got mine at timespace.com for about $26 (USD), and it looks like that's still the current price.

From my testing, it looks like SI Drums is not very GM compatible -- it is missing over half of the GM notes, and it has a couple that are not GM at all.  I guess it might work on a bare minimum midi file (and of course, with the midi files that come with SI Drums).  But I wish it was fully GM compatible, and not just a half subset.

Interesting, since I just recently revived an older project idea that had SI drums all set up . . . usually I convert things like this to a newer BFD3 kit . . . but the SI drums sound so good for this project that I just couldn't mess with it. It's just another great tool in the Sonar toolbox.
