In past versions you could display that grid without having to enter "Transient" mode.

It is somehow integrated to the Audio Snap process... and as Audio Snap is developed from it's original "per clip" mission to an aspiration to act as a full time global transient detection system we will experience growing pains in the implementation.

A one step feature that used a dedicated button, a feature that many enjoyed without ever associating it with Audio Snap, is now buried deep inside the Transient Detection system and is a royal pain to turn on and off.

This was pointed out when version 8.5 came out.

best regards,
mike

And that deeply buried feature isn't really the same (even if it worked - which is doesn't) because you can only add MBT to the pool so I'm guessing that the best you can get is single beats and not beat subdivisions like in SONAR 8 and previous versions.

The Add Musical Snap was never intended by the Bakers to be used as a grid system but it had the accidental effect of becoming one.  Personally, I miss it a lot.  And as so often it happens, when users ask for a feature (a grid overlay) from Cakewalk, we don't get what we ask for - we get what they want to push on us (Aim Assist).  Aim assist is ok but it's not as effective for my purposes as a grid overlay.  I personally don't see what the problem that the Bakers could have with a user defined grid overlay.

I reported CWBRN-3948 - "Add MBT To Pool Menu Option Is Always Grayed Out" back in January. It is in Submitted To Development status, but does not appear to be fixed in X1b. I encountered the problem on day one, because one of my templates from 8.5 had it turned on, and I could not turn it off in X1. The feature is there (though inconveniently buried), and it works if inherited from 8.5, but like Grid Resolution > Follow Snap in the PRV (which will be fixed in X1b), it is inaccessible in X1a.

EDIT (April 10, 2011): When I wrote "it does not appears to be fixed in X1b", I meant that it wasn't on the list of planned fixes as of March 16. but it was in fact fixed at some point for the X1b release.

I won't be happy if that turns out to be true.

The only grid overlay I've used or need is the Vertical Grid Lines, set to display behind clips.  That grid displays measures.  Obviously people are saying they want a note resolution grid, but I'm not clear why the Aim Assist doesn't provide that function?

Because you can get a general overview how all of the audio transients on your tracks are laying in relation to absolute perfect timing.

I have learned to expect less.

And therein is the secret to happiness: Lowered expectations.
