"And that deeply buried feature isn't really the same (even if it worked - which is doesn't) because you can only add MBT to the pool so I'm guessing that the best you can get is single beats and not beat subdivisions like in SONAR 8 and previous versions."

I didn't recognize that... I thought it followed the snap settings regardless of the "MBT" labeling on the command.
No, that's not right. The T in MBT is for Tick. You can get gridlines all the way down to 2 ticks if you set the snap at that, and zoom in far enough for SONAR to draw them all.

I guess I thought Dave was saying that you can not show a 1/8th note grid on a 4/4 scale.

Here's a screenshot (from 8.5.3) with MBT pool lines at 2 ticks. It may be hard to see (try zooming your browser), but the Musical Time is set at 2 ticks, and the the timeline is zoomed such that the sides of the snap dialog are in between 2:02:840 and 2:02:848 with the Now time at 2:02:841 (I also have Absolute Time snap enabled at 24 samples, which is 1 tick at 125BPM). you can have a grid at any resolution you want from 2 ticks to a measure.

You can use any of the standard snap resolutions down to a 128th Triplet, which is 20 ticks (at 960PPQ). I was just trying to illustrate that there is effectively no limit to how fine a resolution you can get. Using ticks also allows you to set grids at non-standard resolutions like quintuplets, etc.

So, yes, showing 8th pool lines on a 4/4 timeline is no problem.

This is news to me.  So where in the heck is the Add MBT to pool in 8.5.3?  Somewhere in the deep, dark bowels of a nested 8.5.3 menu?  Maybe they were trying to give us a taste of what was to come?

There was no change from 8.5.2 to 8.5.3 that I know of. I'm on 8.5.3. You must have the transient tool selected, right-click in the clips pane, go to the >>> extension at the bottom of the context menu, and choose Pool > Add MBT to Pool.
