In the old versions of Sonar you could set the VST scan to scan or not only when you have installed a new product/VST. In Sonar Platinum this des not seem to be the case. Granted, it is a very different scan than going through the manager where it goes through many locations, occasionally hiccups, and then finishes. I am happy for that. But is there a way to have it not scan at all, or is that vital to the opening of the project?

Scan on startup is not the default, automatic background scan is. Both scan on start up but automatic background scan will also pick up plug-ins changes while SONAR is running. There still is a manual option. The scan option is set in Preferences > File > VST Settings.
