  • New Update Feature: New Track Icons

I just stumbled upon an added feature that I didn't see mentioned in the new features list for the latest update.
I'm calling it an "Easter Egg", because it was a nice, undocumented surprise. (at least I didn't see any mention of it).
New Track Icons have been added to almost all the categories (bass, brass, drums, keyboards, guitars, etc.)

Images show new additions to "Vocals" section, and a screenshot of the track icons in action:

Nice find, I didn't notice either.

The Gibson NEAT line images were added in 2016 https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013453/SONAR-2016-Newburyport-Update-Notes

The others go back at least to X2.

There are definitely new icons added this past month.  I use these track icons on every project I create (at least once a month, usually more) and the new microphones in the image above were not there last month....along with many other guitars, wind instruments, and percussion/drums.

Maybe they were added in 2016, the documentation backs that up. But I know for some reason I never saw those new ones until this month.

EDIT: I just opened Sonar Platinum (the last version ever released, Version 2017.10) and those NEAT line microphones are NOT there.

Maybe someone from BandLab/Cakewalk can solve this riddle?

My original post was based on documentation and inspecting the default icon folders at the OS level not inside the application. My installation has 5 less track icons in CbB compared to Platinum. But this difference may not be meaningful. I do not recall adding or removing icons other than run the installers but I could have made some changes to Platinum.

Track Icons are read from the path in Preferences > File > Folder Locations. Is it possible Platinum is not pointing to the default C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR Platinum\Track Icons? Chances are the installers do not write into a custom track icon folder (just like track projects which I set to a custom location to exploit this feature).

I understand what you're saying.  I'm very careful and organized when I set up my Cakewalk folders, and that includes folders for both Sonar Platinum and CbB.  I have two locations for these Track Icons, and both confirm what I am seeing when I open the program. And that is these new icons only appeared within the last month.

I even did a hard drive search for anything to do with Cakewalk Track Icons, and as I suspected, it only showed the two locations I know about.  I also checked my directory path preferences.  I don't know what the answer is.  The link you provided clearly says these icons were added in 2016, so I'm at a loss to why I am only now just seeing them.

I have no doubt the application works correctly with custom paths. The issue is the installers and what paths they use. Historically data from installers that defaulted to "Cakewalk Content" always wrote into  "Cakewalk Content." While it was possible to relocate "Cakewalk Content" as a whole and have installers use the new location, custom paths outside of "Cakewalk Content" did not get updated. As I mentioned above, If I were searching for files, not trusting full disk search, I would look in "Cakewalk Content" default locations. I rely on this to insure my project template folder does not get updated. So far, my custom track template remains unchanged. Maybe this has changed for track icons, IDK mine is set to default.

They are also present on my old DAW computer within Sonar Platinum 2016.11.
