Hi all,

I'm trying a new post because I haven't had much luck with tech support

I'll start by saying this is a very basic tech issue, so it's really confusing me.  I would consider myself a relatively experienced Sonar X 3 user, having recorded hundreds of songs and released 2 full length CDs of material recorded entirely using Sonar, so I'm stumped as to why his is happening to me now.

In short, I can no longer get a simple instrument track to play from my midi keyboard.  Here's the context:

1. I use a Motu Ultralite sound card
2. I insert a simple instrument track, say a dimension Pro piano
3.  Playback through the Ultralite (of other songs/tracks) works fine
4.  When I play my midi keyboard the Ultralite indicates it is receiving that data/note
5.  The midi input for the track is set to Omni, but the meter in the track shows no input data when i play my Midi keyboard
6.  Ultralite is set up in preferences as being a midi input device (and as Is aid, playback works fine)
7.  To test if there was something wrong with the track itself, I drew some notes in the piano roll  and they play back fine as well.

So I think something is going wrong in the link between the Ultralite and the simple instrument track (perhaps it's the cable, but then playback wouldn't work if that was the problem would it?)

Any suggestions welcome.  As I said I've done it this way hundreds of times and never had an issue.

Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew.
You have probably already done this, but if not try troubleshooting just the midi input. Insert a simple midi track, then change the input to midi omni of your ultralite (not all inputs omni). Make sure midi echo is active. When you play the keyboard, do the meters on the midi track register midi input?

Maybe it's not sonar, but the ultralite

Thanks Bruce I'll try your suggestion.

And Jesse, yes it's highly possible it's the Ultra lite, but that fact that playback is working confuses me.  Perhaps I'll get a new cable to test if something went wrong with the midi aspect of it

Ok, I sorted it out,

Turns out the Ultra lite was NOT ticked as a midi input device.  No idea how that happened, I would never deliberately do that, must have clicked it in error. Feel a bit silly

Thanks for your help
